Hi everyone, I'm happy to share with you a project I've been working on for a long time, the Tasker budget tracker!

I wasn't quite satisfied with any budget tracking app, so I decided to create one that will have all of these features:

  • Completely custom categories
  • Notes each transaction (where needed)
  • Transactions in different currencies
  • Monthly and yearly data in a sheet format, with average monty amounts for each category (and a few more insights)
  • Ability to check the data from any device

The project uses Tasker, Autotools and Autosheets to track your income/expenses in a Google sheet. Everything is created dynamically from scratch, so you can use the task as-is, or modify it according to your preferences. Here is the tutorial that shows how it works and how to set it up.

Here is the project itself on Taskernet.

Enjoy! :)

I recently updated Tasker from an older version I think it was 6.1.4, so not too old. Tasker used to set %errmsg to a description of what happened if the Dialog actions did not return with some text, like "No input provided" or "Cancelled". In the most recent version of Tasker this action does not set these error variables like before. Any hints on what I could do?

Yes I noticed the obvious in the Userguide where it states %errmsg is "currently never set by Tasker" but I don't remember if it's always been this way, or actually an update. All I know is the various Dialog actions won't error out anymore.

(Searching the web did not give relevant results; I don't know where to start with the logs)

Hi,

I've done a lot of search online and could only find outdated threads on this topic, so I am opening this thread to identify a solution that applies to the current situation. What I found out was that old solutions no longer work because Android now opens captive portal page in its UI vs browser. My workplace and gym both use captive portal with a simple click to agree (workplace one has to scroll several pages to get to the button however). If anyone has a tasker automation solution for captive portal WiFi login, please share. Thank you.

Does anyone else have problems running a profile that is going to use AutoLocation at some point, which Android Auto projection?

I noticed that since I created the profile in Tasker with "Stopping Monitor Location, first address true" etc, Android Auto GPS location is a bit off and lags and starts missing while blocks or road in the end. It may be fixed by restarting Android Auto and car, but this isn't useful.

Anyone else?

There's an easy way to enable ADB wifi permission, by installing tasker permissions on your windows PC, connecting your phone to the pc and granting the permission that way as mentioned here

But does this need to be re-granted every time you restart the phone, or does ADB wifi permission stay granted forever?

Good Morning,

I've been using PowerAmp Pro for many years now, and I'm finding the Intents kind of lacking in options. I can't play a single file or playlist, as soon as it is done running what I requested it continues playing other files or lists. If there is a scripting way to stop this I don't know of it, I have to use Kill App with ADB WiFi enabled to stop the unwanted play.

Have any players come out in the last few years with more config options and Intents?

Thanks for reading,

Logan

Have a tasker task that uses autoinput to turn on the screen, then unlock it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails with "Screen can't be unlocked in this state." I have a Samsung with smart lock set, and the failures occur even where the phone should be unlocked by smart lock. The error message is pretty useless. How can I figure out what "this state" is? Looking in the tasker log doesn't help: I know what task is being executed, just not why Auto Input can't unlock the screen. Is there ANY debug information available from Auto Input?

I'm following this guide:

I followed it to the letter. When I launch the widget, however, it gives me an error that there is no task for Clear Chat, which is true. It is calling for a Clear Chat task that doesn't exist. I turn off that variable, but then I get the same thing for the "Send Chat" task.

With u/joaomgcd on vacation, it has been a bit slow in Tasker-land. So I thought I would post this update.

MapTasker is a program that runs on your (OS X) Mac, reading your backup xml file and displaying your entire or partial Tasker setup in a viewable format...in your default browser.

MapTasker helps visualize and understand your Tasker projects, profiles, tasks and scenes. Version 2.3 comes with new features to enhance the user experience:

  • New '-font' runtime option to select a monospace font for maps.
  • New '-outline' option displays configuration outline at end of output.
  • New '-runtime' option displays all runtime arguments and settings at beginning of map.
  • GUI updated with the above new features and a 'Just Display Everything' checkbox.
  • Yeah, there is even an easter egg.

Other features include many runtime options to tailor the output map just the way you want it. It will even (optionally) grab your backup.xml file from your Android device via Wifi (see README or details).

To install: pip install maptasker

To run from the GUI: maptasker -g

For a list of all changes, refer to the full change log.

Program details can be found here.

Report any/all issues at this link.

I have updated a Galaxy Watch 4 to Wear OS 4 (One UI 4.0). I have seen two problems with AUTOWEAR. First, complications do not update with new data when Tasker sends new data to the complication. The data appears when the watchface first loads but does not update thereafter.

Secondly, if you edit a complication in AUTOWEAR on the phone, when you close and the phone attempts to update the complication on the watch it sits on the "Please Wait, Setting Complication on Watch." This is followed by "ERROR, Couldn't update complication. Maker sure your watch is connected." The watch is connected and operating correctly.

I suspect that AUTOWEAR needs an update to support Wear OS 4.

As an additional note, it seems it is only possible to allow the overlay permission is direct use of ADB. There is no system way to do so and scripts don't seem to work. I was successful in enabling it using ADB, but could not enable the WRITE_SETTINGS permission.

Thank you so much for all the work on AUTOWEAR - it really is incredibly valuable.

If you are looking to create a task on tasker and haven't been able to figure it out then head over to chat gpt and ask it to create one, it will provide all the necessary steps. Using tasker has never been easier. Cheers.

Hello I was wondering how can I make the kid app ask for battery optimization?

Lots of apps (including taker) would show a system popup on the firl app launch to ask user to exclude that app from battery optimization...

How can I add this feature to my exported kid app ?

TL;DR: Trying to set smaller volume steps for low volumes, using Sound Assistant.

+++

Hi. Good Lock for Samsung allows installation of various apps that allow better customizations of Samsung devices. Sound Assistant is one of them. It allows, among other things, to set "steps" of volume lower than 10. I.E. volume in Samsung normally has 16 available values, 0-15. It is actually mapped to 0-150 in multiples of 10.

This app lets me change the "step" from 10 to 1-10. Usually I'm using 5 for better granularity, however when I'm at bed at night I want lower "step" as 0 is mute by 5 can be too loud at night.

I've tried using Manifest View to check the app, it has an activity which is exposed for this:

``

Using APK Analyzer I can even run this activity. This opens the UI of the slider for setting the step. However, this doesn't actually change the step value (maybe due to missing permissions for APK Analyzer?).

I've tried running the activity from Tasker, using Send Intent, unsuccessfully:

Action: com.sec.android.soundassistant.action.ui.VolumeStepActivity

Package: com.sec.android.soundassistant

I didn't see any Class or other values in the manifest file.

Using LogCat I found that SettingsProvider has this:

isChangeAllowed() : name = sec_volume_steps

and that the actual change is seen as

JOAOMGCD: Toast Intercepts-New r4.n: com.samsung.android.soundassistant - 8;

LASTMESSAGE: Received last update com.samsung.android.soundassistant - 8

Optimally, I'd like to note that volume <= 10 (in the 0-150 range, or <= 1 in the 'regular' range), and then change the step from 5 to 1. When volume > 10, reset step to 5.

If this can be done via Tasker code, great.

If it'll require running activity and AutoInput it'll be much less useful (interfering with watching YT/Twitch etc.) and I guess I can do that now by opening the app and using AutoInput. But the activity slider at least won't take the whole screen.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

As we all know, monitor clipboard has been broken on Android 13 because of the changes Google made to log access. However, we can still gain log access with ADB and root. I couldn't find anything on it, so I was curious if there were any plans to to add back the functionality to monitor clipboard via one of these methods.

I wasted a couple of hours thinking there was a bug in something.

I was trying to test something using a very small scene and text element (25x25, for both), but every time I tried to tap or swipe it, it would disappear.

Checking the run log, there'd be an "Anon.Destroy Scene" entry from a task with a negative task number.

After the "out of memory" errors and Tasker's failure to complete autosaves (and some other apparent housekeeping errors) my thoughts gravitated to elaborate explanations.

I'm chagrined to confess that it took me a while to realize that the explanation was just that the scene was so small that the Exit Button took up the entire box and the "x" was obscured by the bright background color I assigned to the element. 🤦‍♂️

As the old saying goes: "when you see hoofprints in the sand, think horses, not zebras".

Anyway, I vaguely remember many years ago, when the Internet was largely confined to academic/research/mil organizations, that people would sometimes start lists of programming/user mistakes they'd made, for others to avoid and I wondered if such a list had ever been started for Tasker?

Is this possible? I tried writing the address like this http://localhost:port/send?text=test, however the profile didn't react.

I'm planning to make Tasker play a role as a plugin for Termux & Macrodroid via HTTP Request Event.

For the time being, I use the body or the headers to pass them, but I'm curious whether passing them as query paramaters is doable or not.

Thanks!

It's simple, when you are creating an array variable and an element has several elements separated by commas, you can replace that comma with its corresponding HTML code: "& # 4 4 ;" (no spaces or quotes). When you use it in a scene or in the input dialog you just have to activate the HTML box.

I haven't purchased tasker, and I want to confirm if the following is possible before committing to the purchase.

Samsung watch 6 classic has a turning bezel. I would like to put a trigger on the bezel turning to control the ebook page turning on my phone or scrolling webpages on the phone. For example, if I turn the bezel clockwise, turn pages forward. If I turn the bezel counter clockwise, turn pages backward.

I was able to get on screen buttons on the watch using Macrodroid that allows me to turn pages on the phone, but Macrodroid does not have triggers on the bezel nor the physical buttons on the side of the watch.

Does tasker have triggers on physical buttons of the watch or the watch bezel?

Yesterday I started getting "Task doesn't exist" errors when trying to call a new task from the Perform Task action.

Tasker had recently resumed throwing "out of memory" errors, but not wanting to get rid of anything, I tried a number of things that failed.

Here's what finally worked:

(0. Confirm the error still occurs after choosing the task from Perform Task's task selection menu to avoid typos)

  1. Back up Tasker
  2. Export unneeded projects
  3. Delete the exported projects
  4. Exit Tasker
  5. Restart Tasker

Hopefully this will save others' time if they find themselves in the same situation and are resisting doing housecleaning.

BACKGROUND INFO FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS IT:

It didn't matter how I created the new task or whether I copied and pasted its name into the Perform or chose it from the selection menu: I still got the error.

No combination of backing up, exiting completely out of Tasker, or even restarting Android fixed the problem.

I had been getting the Tasker out of memory errors off and on for months. They went away for a month or two after getting rid of 4 or 5 global vars ranging in size from 100K to 800K, but started reappearing in the last few days.

In desperation, I backed up Tasker again, exported and deleted about 15 projects I wasn't using, then exited and restarted Tasker, and the Perform Task executed without error.

Until now, I'd worried about the out of memory errors, but hadn't found any evidence of something actually failing. Sigh.
