I've been playing Call of Duty Mobile for a while but starting to get bored. I'm looking for new games to try on Dex (any genre). Any suggestions?

I have been using Dex for some time now (about 2.5 years) and I like it as everything is contained in my phone and I don't have to carry a laptop or computer. (most of the time) I have been thinking, where is this platform going and what is the future of Dex? It is good at some things and for others, I need to find a workaround, but I can get by using it about 90% of the time for basic office work. (Word, some Excel, and app-related projects) I am wondering if this platform is at a dead end. What are your thoughts as to where Dex is headed?

Aside from being constrained to one monitor and the lack of webcam support, what have you found to be the biggest drawbacks to using DeX?

Issues with internet browsing? Programs you wish you could run? Windows settings that you miss having?

I'm toying with the idea of buying into some hardware to make DeX a part of my life, but while the benefits are obvious, it's difficult to determine precisely what things I'll be giving up.

One concern of mine is file structure. I have the 1TB S23 Ultra, so space isn't a big concern, but Android notoriously has issues with app devs putting their files wherever they want, which results in chaotic organization. The same is true to some degree in Windows, but I think not as bad.

Another concern is that I don't know how sophisticated shortcuts are. Like, will I have to right-click every time I want to copy/paste, or can I use things like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V?

So I have a ARM Windows laptop which give me no end of grief, especially with drivers. I live with it because it's light, has great battery life and was purchased specifically so I can use DEX.

Now, DEX is cool and all but I am still stuck with the Android version of office apps which is mind-boggling for me bec the whole point, presumably, is to get the desktop/laptop experience and the adoption rate is less than meh.

  1. Are there good Office alternatives or emulation apps that I am missing out on?

  2. Has anyone used Polaris Office Mobile DeX and is it worth the $100?

Thanks.

I recently bought a pixel 8 pro and I never thought I'd want to have Dex capability before but all the posts here is making me feel like I should've waited for the S24 ultra which is just about 2 months away.

Samsung Dex is such an underrated feature and good damn do I wish I had that capability now.

Since the S8, I have been a Samsung loyalist because I knew the day would come where DeX would get me out of a tight spot. Fast forward to today and my ZFold 4.

I typically work from home, but had to go into the office today for some in person meetings. Wife's car is in the shop, so she dropped me off and took my car for the day. I open my bag and realize that when I thought I grabbed my work laptop I had instead grabbed my kid's laptop which is the same color, size, and weight. It was on my desk at home due to them losing screens.

Immediately my heart sank - I didn't have my work laptop and I didn't have a car to go get it. What I did have though, in my go bag, was my Bluetooth KB/Mouse. With a quick borrow of a USB C portable external monitor from a colleague I was all set.

Booted up DeX, installed Teams and Outlook (normally not on my personal phone, only my work phone), and logged into my OneDrive.

Done and done, worked the whole day without issue.

Nothing special here, but thought it would be a fun story to share!

For a reason that I'm yet to explain, I yesterday decided to plug in my S10 into the Dell dock that usually receives my laptop. Boom! Full screen dedicated mode - mind blown. Now I understand I've been lucky (there's only 1 monitor plugged, it's 1080p, somehow the dock is compatible...), but one of my immediate problems is solved.

I had a old laptop connected to a projector for "home cinema" that died last week and was in the process of trying to find a suitable replacement. I think I just did, as the docking supports ethernet I'm connected to my NAS as well. Just having concerns about temperature of the phone while streaming 4K remuxes and the overall streaming capabilities. Would anything change with a Tab S7 FE?

I was watching the Tech Altar's Friday Checkout the other day and the way he was talking about all these new ARM processors being made for Windows, plus the great success story that (apparently) is the Apple Silicon, I have to ask - has Samsung completely missed the boat?

I mean, Apple had to design its own chips & keep working on their software. Windows on ARM is still far from perfect, but they're making progress.

Meanwhile, Samsung has had a desktop environment within Android for years, they have all the android apps, not to mention web apps... We all know here how good Dex can be, it's literally something most other phones can't compete with, including iPhones! Samsung also already makes laptops, yet they apparently have no plans to make a laptop-dock and they refuse to advertise Dex.

So why not go "hey, no need to buy a an iPhone AND an m2 macbook ! Just get our S23 Ultra, there's an ARM computer in it, we'll throw in our laptop dock for free!"

What am I missing?
