A place to talk about roller coasters and parks that have them. Everyone is welcome here to both learn and to celebrate these magnificent machines designed to scare you.

Here are some important resources:

  1. RCDB
  2. Thrill Data
  3. Coast2Coaster
  4. Terminology and Abbreviations

Images are welcome if they are of high quality and it doesn't get out of hand. Please use PostImages to upload your image and then use that link in the URL field of your post (other image sites are permitted but Post Images has the best policies and compatibility).

Some basic rules:

  1. Opinions, theories, and facts are all welcome – but be clear about what you’re saying.

  2. Back up facts with sources as much as possible

  3. No spam or sell-promotion. Linking to your own media or site is permissible only if it’s specifically related to a topic/post that someone else created.

  4. No photos or videos taken on the rides. This is dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged.

  5. Limit political discussion. When discussed it must be park related.

  6. No fictional coasters (models, no limits, planet coaster, etc)

  7. No posting personal information.

  8. No shaming of anyone. We all can continue to learn and not everyone knows everything -- and that's ok.

While Cedar Point continues to tease PHP (the TTD remake) Tony Clark is quoted as saying an official announcement will come this summer.

Starting Jan 1st, 2024 all amusement rides in Illinois will be required to have at least one operator that is certified in CPR.

Personally, I think this is a great law and should be adopted elsewhere. CPR training isn't a huge endeavor (you can be trained in as little as a few hours) but in the event that someone needs CPR this could be the difference between them surviving or not.

If you've never checked out DefunctLand on Youtube, what are you waiting for? By far one of my favorite channels.... Actually one of the few that I regularly watch.

This article takes a dive in Kevin's work on the channel and highlights a lot of interesting things.

Lizzy McGee isn't just dreaming of starting a new park, she's already raised funds for a study through Kickstarter of all places.

I'm not sure we'll ever see this come to fruition because of the huge obstacles in the way but you have to give credit for people following their dream.

This is a cool little article about why the Pacific Northwest of the US has limited amusement parks and how it's not just because of the weather.

Giant canyon swing always gets me. Obvi it has the positives and floater like any s&s swing, but the acrophobia of feeling like youre about to be hurled off a cliff, combined with the amazing scenery makes it such a top notch installation for me.

Holiday World has announced they are building a new coaster in project "Gravy Boat"

Since they are referencing gravy and showing a picture of the old Pilgrims Plunge location it looks like a Thanksgiving addition..... Perhaps it'll also use the old rapids area as well - or maybe that still is another project?

They are expecting the new support column to arrive as soon as next week but the process of installation and, especially, recommissioning will take an extended period of time.

While I hate that automated voice used in this video and there's some cringe observations I also learned some interesting information that I was not aware of (or at least didn't realize) before. One of the most interesting things was that Valerio Ferrari left Zamperla in 2018 to be Co-CEO of Intamin and was hired back to Zamperla in 2021.

I recently discovered Ryan the Ride Mechanic’s channel when he did a video on Fury 325’s support failure. Turns out he’s been making really great videos on the regular for about a year (along with some older stuff too), so I wanted to share one of his greatest hits! He goes into a lot of detail about his role as a ride mechanic, and what it’s like working with specific types of rides and their manufacturers. If you want to learn more about how rides actually work day in and day out for years on end, I’d highly recommend giving his videos a watch!

This is still a small enough community that I think we can get away with this discussion without a ton of replies that no one reads ;)

What's everyone's top 10 list for coasters? Here's my current top 10:

#1 - Voyage - Holiday World

#2 - VelociCoaster - Universal Studios Islands of Adventure

#3 - Mystic Timbers - King's Island

#4 - El Toro - Six Flags Great Adventure

#5 - Iron Gwazi - Busch Gardens Tampa

#6 - Ravine Flyer II - Waldameer

#7 - Skyrush - Hersheypark

#8 - Twisted Timbers - King's Dominion

#9 - Intimidator 305 - King's Dominion

#10 - Phantom's Revenge - Kennywood

Before anyone asks, yes, I've been to Cedar Point..... SteVe doesn't appear until 22 in my list....

Anyone really looking forward to a specific ride or park that they are planning to go to that they haven't been on/to before?

For me I'm heading to King's Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg this week and I'm super excited to ride the restored Grizzly..... and hopefully, if the gods are willing, I'll finally get on Pantheon which I've been to the park 3 times for and still haven't been able to get on it.

Do you like coasters that launch you at high speeds, or traditional coasters that bring you up the lift hill slowly? Wood vs metal?

My only claim to fame is riding Kingda Ka (tallest coaster... is it still the tallest), don't know that much about coasters except that they're fun!
