I took this photo while working on a story about Carnival in Brazil. In the back of an old warehouse, I came across this upside-down Obama figure wearing a Uncle Sam hat, right next to a blindfolded Lady Justice statue. Both covered in dust and completely forgotten. In times of political polarization and ideological battles, the scene really caught my eye.

Religion continues to play a significant role in shaping societies and public opinion, even among those who don’t follow a particular faith.

I captured this photo of a religious woman in Kyiv during the declaration of independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

A few days later, a major Russian news outlet used the same image to claim that the Ukrainian church had ceased to exist.

It’s a small example of how symbols and narratives are often caught in the middle of larger political and cultural disputes.

This photo is part of a project I worked on called Favela Kombat: Girls Fight Back, and it was truly something special to be part of. I spent time visiting different favelas across Rio de Janeiro, where I met women who had all faced some form of violence, loss, or struggle. What connected them was a powerful choice they made: they decided to fight back through Mixed Martial Arts.

Each of them had a dream. Some hoped to one day step into the UFC ring. Others simply wanted to feel strong again. In a place where opportunities are often scarce, they found strength in the rhythm of training, in the sweat of each round, and in the sisterhood they built along the way.

As a photographer, I was there to document it all. But more than taking photos, I left with stories, lessons, and a deep admiration for their resilience. These women showed me that fighting back isn't just about fists. It's about reclaiming who you are, one punch at a time.

On November 25, 2018, I was in Spain when I saw the news that Russian forces had seized three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Kerch Strait, near the Sea of Azov. I immediately began arranging logistics and traveled to the region. After obtaining the necessary accreditations from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides, I made my way to the frontlines of the conflict in the Donbas region, where Ukrainian forces were engaged in a tense standoff with Russian-backed separatists.

I embedded with Ukrainian soldiers and spent time living in a frontline bunker, documenting their daily routines and the low-intensity warfare that, even then, signaled the beginning of what would later become the full-scale invasion in 2022.

In this photo, Ukrainian soldiers share a hot meal after returning from patrol duty near the frontline.

The woman in the photo was getting a temple ready for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
I know, it took me a while to post… I was out shooting for like eight hours straight, basically turned into a temple decoration myself and went off the grid. But hey, @lostintravel gave me the push I needed—so here it is. Thanks a lot!

Hey folks, so far I’ve been managing to post one photo a day on #Pixelfed. Let’s see how long I can keep it up, right? No pressure though — just going with the flow and having fun with it.
Took this one in Espírito Santo, in the southwest of Brazil, while I was out photographing for a story for a local outlet about fishing along the coast.

Hey everyone! I’ve been posting daily on Pixelfed for a little over a month, and now I’m bringing those photos here too — starting with this one.

I’ve been a photographer since I was a kid, mostly working in photojournalism and documentary. I believe it’s important that photographers share their work beyond physical borders — and the fediverse feels like a great place to do that.

Pixelfed has been a refreshing alternative to Instagram — calmer, cleaner, and more about the photos themselves.

Curious to hear what you think. Excited to be here and see everyone’s perspective!
