Charlie Brown stands outside Patty's house in the rain as she stands in front of him in the doorway. He says,"Go ask your mother if you can come out an' play..."
He whistles as she closes the door to go an ask.
She returns and says,"She said it's raining too hard for me to go out..."
He replies,"Well, what I'm really doing is hinting to be invited in!"

Snoopy sits on the ground laughing as Charlie Brown sits across from him saying,"An' then Mike says, 'Oh, yeah?'."
Charlie Brown turns to Patty as she arrives and says,"Snoopy and I are telling jokes..."
He continues as she sits,"I doubt that he understands anything I'm saying, though..."
He concludes,"I think he just laughs to keep from hurting my feelings!"

He raises his hand and proclaims,"I win! My opponent has failed to come out of his corner!!"

Charlie Brown sits humming on the sand, between his pail and watering-can.
Patty walks up behind him and watches him.
Patty takes the watering-can and pours water on his head. He starts questioningly as he feels the water splashing over his head.
She watches in surprise as he exclaims,"Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day!"

Violet bends over towards Schroeder sitting on the floor. She says,"Hello there, Schroeder! You know me, don't you?"
She stoops down in front of him as he looks at her in confusion. She continues, "My name is Violet...I'm your friend!"
She stands as he sits there smiling and says,"If I can just stay in good with him now..."
She walks off concluding,"Maybe when we both get older, He'll ask me for a date!"

She approaches him and holds out her wrist with the watch on it. She says,"I've got a new watch, but I don't know how it works" He looks at the watch and replies,"It's four o'clock"

She grimaces as he replies,"I just heard it over the radio!"

Schroeder sits on the floor frowning. Charlie Brown leans over him and says,"Smile, Schroeder..."
He stoops next to Schroeder and continues,"C'mon, Schroeder, smile...you can do it" Schroeder raises his eyebrows.
As he smiles, Charlie Brown exclaims, "He did it! He's smiling!! He's smiling at me!"
They both look at the reader, and Charlie Brown concludes,"Gee! I feel like a father!"

Charlie Brown leans over looking at the smiling, sitting Schroeder as Patty watches from nearby. He asks,"Doesn't Schroeder ever talk?"
She replies,"He hasn't learned how yet..he's too young" He stoops in front of him and asks,"Can he walk?"
She walks up to them and Schroeder turns towards her. She replies,"No, he doesn't walk yet either..."
Charlie Brown concludes,"Gee, this gives me a great feeling of superiority!"

Patty approaches Charlie Brown sitting in the sandbox playing with his toys. She asks,"Have you met Schroeder yet, Charlie Brown?"
As he walks off behind her, Charlie Brown asks,"Schroeder?! Who's he?" She replies,"He lives next door....c'mon, I'll introduce you"
She points to a baby sitting on the floor and says,"Here he is! Say something to him" Charlie Brown replies,"I don't know what to say..."
As Schroeder smiles up at him, he turns to Patty and concludes,"I always feel so uncomfortable near children!"

As the ball swishes by him, he exclaims,"Rats!"
He walks off exasperated. He says,"This is getting me down...let's change the rules, Shermy..."
He looks at Shermy through the tennis-net and concludes,"One point if you hit the ball, two points if you get it over the net!"

They walk over to Snoopy eating his food from his dish. She points at him and says,"Just look how nicely Snoopy eats...."
He stoops in front of Snoopy and replies,"He's got a big advantage, though..."
He returns to the table and resumes slurping his food. He concludes as they watch him,"He doesn't have to use a spoon!"
