not trying to lie or be overly positive but like i don’t recall ever seeing someone who i was like “they’re ugly” not in real life not online like at most it’s “oh they’re overweight” or “they have acne” or something like that. like i think losing weight and taking care of your skin and getting a haircut easily makes everyone at least average lmk what y’all think.

there’s barely any ugly people on r/amiugly btw

also knowing if you should have a beard or nah will change you

A friend of mine is on probation for something, not drug related but has slipped disks in his neck. His doctor has him on Percocet. He barely even takes them as prescribed for pain after he’s off work. His probation officer called his doctor and told them to stop prescribing them because he wasn’t allowed to take them on probation. This makes no sense to me since his reason has nothing to do with drugs. NE Ohio TIA.

So I keep seeing people talking on the internet saying that some 50 years ago, you could have bought a house or gotten a mortgage, by basically working a minimum wage job, and it got me curious was life actually cheap "back in the day" or is it something that is false?

I have no issue with homosexuality, I don't care what anybody is attracted to, to put it broader. But sometimes my male friends make comments like "of course he can get all the girls, he's really hot". For me, I cannot honestly tell when a guy is "hot". I can figure out if he's ugly because of certain facial features that are strange in rare cases, but for most cases I just don't have a clue. Only thing I can obviously tell is when a guy is musucular or fat anf simple things like that, but regarding the face, I'm pretty clueless. I find this to be pretty weird and I talked to some guys and most have a broad idea of what is attractive or not. Is this normal or not?

I was born after 9/11/2001. When people talk about 9/11, they always refer to the WTC like it was something that everyone knew about. I live in the Midwest, and the only places in NY that people occasionally talk about here are the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and Times Square. Was the WTC as well-known as these places, or did it gain national attention solely because of the attacks?

Edit: Thanks for all the answers :)

Personally, I've never had the chance to try it myself and was wondering why it seems frowned upon.

On multiple occasions when I (20's F) have been driving, my partner (30's M) has reached over to honk my horn. One time it was because someone didn't go at a green light, one time because someone was going "too slow" on a curvy road (he said this was dangerous), and the most recent time he reached over and gave about 5-7 additional honks after I gave the standard tap on the horn when someone didn't go on green.

I told him it was very rude and unnecessary to honk that many times and he said he didn't care what the driver thought of us because they were an a-hole for not moving. I got pretty pissed off and yelled at him that that was beside the point, he has done this before, and that it's not ok for him to honk my horn for the same reason it's not ok to mess with any other controls while I'm in the driver's seat. He gave me kind of a half apology, didn't seem to understand the real reason I was upset, and just went inside when we got home.

He seems to feel perfectly justified in his behavior. I feel like it is extremely rude and unnecessary for a passenger to honk the horn, barring some kind of emergency situation, in which case I feel like the horn is kind of an afterthought.

ETA: Thanks to everyone who has commented so far, there seems to be a pretty clear consensus.

To be completely fair and make sure I'm not leaving out important details, we were bringing home an aquarium coral and he said that we needed to hurry so the coral didn't die. I think the extra 10 seconds would not have made a difference and this was a poor excuse. Even if we had to sit at the light for a full cycle it would have been like a minute, it's a small intersection. The coral was in a cooler with aquarium water and we were about a half mile from our house.

I was at my best friend's house and hanging out with their 14-year-old who was telling me about modern note-passing techniques in class, despite it being antiquated when cell phones and texting are available. I laughed and told them some of the more creative ways kids "in my day" pre-cell phones got messages and even told them about how a friend and I would write our notes in "'advanced' Leet speak" so if the teacher got ahold of it, they wouldn't be able to do the thing where they read the note out loud to the class.

They looked at me, puzzled, and asked, "What's 'leet speak'?" I was a little taken aback. But then I also realized how long it's been since I've heard someone, anyone, even reference 1337 speak.

Do kids these days just not even know what it is at all? It felt like it was such a huge thing way back when. And this kid runs in all the same circles that would have used 1337 speak back in the day, so it's not like exposure to its existence would be unheard of.

So did the concept of 1337 speak just go the way of omgwtfbbq and turn into dust under the weight of modern pop culture and blow away in the wind? Not that it wasn't cringy as hell or should be "brought back" or anything... I'm just wondering if it was just this kid, or if a lot of younger folks have simply never heard of it.

Edit: I get a lot more attention from men than ladies when I go to bars or use dating apps.

I wouldn’t say I come across like one of the stereotypical subgroups that this is usually true for - ie bears, twinks - then again, what do I know

Are you suppose to be honest and say, "I'm doing horrible. How about you?" Or are supposed to lie like you do to everyone else and say, "I'm good. How are you?"

I've always told myself that, if I had the money, I'd have my dream home built entirely from concrete. I suppose I'd just like the added security of the home not being able to burn down. Also, it seems that with the rising lumber costs it may eventually be less money to build a house with concrete.

Hi all. I remember a kid that was so strange because he would never eat lunch. I mean, never. He wouldn't eat lunch from home or school lunch. When we sat with him, we would ask if he was a robot and why he never eats. He never even asked us for food. He would just quietly kid during lunch.

He said he just eats at home. Was that really the truth? Now, I think that he might have been a poor kid. But our school has a free food program for poor kids.

He only ate food once when we had some free pizza party celebration.

I discussed this with my husband. My guess was €50, my husband's guess was €500 (on average, of course) a month. So, could you settle this for us? 😄

Yes obviously there were times in history when it has become fashionable to not wear bras or since before they were invented, I’m specifically talking about recently it seems very uncommon, as in the last year or two women wear very tight or almost transparent tops with no bra, just wondering why this has happened and where the recent trend started?

I work in an office doing data entry and I expect to be working there in the long run. My boss showed me a picture of her daughter and she's really hot. My boss said we also have a lot of similar hobbies and interests.

I went on a date with this girl at a cocktail bar. We were having a great time and were talking about what kind of plans we had for the future. She kept talking about how badly she wanted to get married and what kind of wedding she wanted. She also described the specifics of the ring she would want from her man. She went pretty deep into it and I awkwardly pretended to agree.

Hi so I (17 F) don't really know what to think. I hear a lot of stuff in the news about stuff being "woke" and "the war on woke". Is it normal to think it's...stupid? Like there are bigger problems in the world and I don't really care if a mermaid is black or if a trans person is promoting a beer. They're people too. Why is this "woke"? I know black and trans people in real life, why does it matter if they're in movies or in ads? Isn't there like, homelessness and world hunger a bigger thing to worry about than people existing?

Marriage was always the goal for me in relationships, I know that's not true for everyone. I was just wondering why.
