Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

For weird/insane or just plain incomprehensible questions on Quora - [email protected]

For people who love chavs (synonyms in other countries: bogans, gopniks, etc) [email protected]

Not sure if this counts or not, but I made two Piefed feeds (which collect many different communities in one page, AKA multi-communities)

The reason I made these is because the default gaming feed is lacking some communities and mixes a lot of very specific communities with general ones.

If anybody knows good gaming communities that aren't dead, do share them so I can add them to the feeds.

[email protected]. I just noticed that there was an inactive one on lemmy.ml, but you can talk about forums you made here and post about forums in general! I hope this gets active.

[email protected]

Lemmy version of the Reddit one.

I created [email protected] because I still find Lemmy a bit confusing. Since there are so many communities across so many servers, I never know where I should be posting certain topics.

The goal of this community is to help people find the right community to post specific content and, by doing that, hopefully, decrease posting friction and increase content.

Please subscribe and help people find the right community!

I know it may not seem like much, but I have had so many instances of content that I wanted to post but ended up just saying"fuck it" because I didn't know where I should be posting it. This friction multiplied by hundreds of people does make the difference!

EDIT: I am looking for 2 (or so) mods for this new community. If you are interested in modding, please let me know. There shouldn't be too much work. Just remove spam, if it ever happens.

Moving the /freeflight community over here from Lemm.ee, since that instance is shutting down. I hope to see more involvement here!

LemDro.id is the instance for all things Android within the threadiverse (Lemmy, Mbin, PieFed and now even NodeBB) and so it's only right that F-Droid finds itself a host on Lemdroid.

The amazing team over at Lemdroid were gracious enough to host the F-Droid community. This opens F-Droid discussions to users whose home instance block ML and more users having easier access to content is never a bad thing.

So if you'd like to subscribe to a community dedicated to open source apps via a Google Play Store alternative, please check out [email protected]

This one's just for a bit of lighthearted fun. We all get those reports from time to time, and it seems a shame to keep them hidden away.

After a short discussion over in RPGMemes, we came to the conclusion that Lemmy is missing a community to discuss your works in progress and get feedback so I opened one and started posting what I'm working on.

Give it a look, leave some feedback on the stuff that's already there and add your own, no matter if it's something you're working on or a question.

Discuss selling on different platforms like eBay, marketplace, Craigslist, Mercari, etc.

No, you don't have to be in the "hustle and grind" mindset. You can be a casual reseller, or just learn the ins and outs in order to get the best outcome from selling your own personal items. I've been casually selling on eBay for 22 years and am happy to answer questions.

I would like to present [email protected]

For many years the AskMenOver30 subreddit has been a very helpful, supportive, and wholesome place for general discussion among adults. The community has been a great example of how good the internet can be. I would love to see this legacy continue in the fediverse.

Trans men are men and welcome. People who are younger than 30 are welcome to seek advice from their older peers. Women are welcome to do the same.

A community to discuss fruit trees, fruit forestry, fruitarianism, and all things fruit-related.

Post photos of your fruit trees or harvests, share growing information or interesting articles, ask questions, or just express your appreciation for fruit in general!

Hosted on slrpnk.net, an instance with an ecological and anti-capitalist focus.

Fruit trees provide many ecological benefits – they are trees, after all! A properly-stewarded fruit forest can provide many of the benefits of a native forest while also providing an abundance of wholesome and delicious food! No tilling the soil, no killing the plants at harvest time, and no wasted vertical space. Fruit trees are also the gift that keeps on giving, producing food for decades and producing seeds and other propagation materials in order to spread the abundance, no profit incentive needed! Share with your friends, share with your neighbours, share with the birds – you'll have so much food, you'll be giving it away! Shifting to a tree-based agriculture would also free up a huge amount of land, allowing native forests to regrow, which would have an enormous benefit for the climate. Fruit trees are the ultimate win-win situation!

Community Name: okbuddyrosalyn ([email protected])

Description: A Lemmy-based homage to the subreddit r/okbuddyrosalyn

This community aims to bring the spirit of r/okbuddyrosalyn to Lemmy — a place for ironic, absurdist, and surreal edits of Calvin and Hobbes comics.

I just wanted to quickly share that I recently made a new subreddit called:

okbuddyriordan

inspired by the okbr-style meme communities.

It’s meant to be a lighthearted, chaotic, and lovingly unhinged space for Riordan-verse memes—Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, Trials of Apollo, etc.

Think cursed memes, low-effort shitposts, wholesome nonsense—basically Camp Half-Blood energy turned up to 11.
