I don’t know if we have a bot that will make a formal GameDay thread. Assuming we don’t, use this one for pregame, live, and postgame discussion!

I’m hoping to see some immediate improvement from last year’s 5-7 squad. There is no reason the Hurricanes shouldn’t win this one by at least 2 or 3 scores.

Go Canes!

Per UM Sports Hall of Fame

George Mira, Sr. will long be remembered by Hurricane fans as one of Miami's greatest quarterbacks and perhaps the 'Canes greatest player ever.

In his three year career, Mira set numerous passing records, some of which are still in the record books. During his career, Miami once again gained national prominence, reaching the 1961 Liberty Bowl, the first bowl appearance in 19 years. Mira was the quarterback and passer for the '60's, he could drop back and pass and scramble when he had to, which earned him his nickname "The Matador". In 1962 Mira lead the Hurricanes to the Gotham Bowl in New York City and proved to the country that he was the real deal.

At the time of his Hall of Fame induction, Mira still lead UM in total offense, 5,125 yards, which is still in the top ten for that category. When his UM career was completed his jersey, No. 10, was retired, an honor that was given to only one player before him.

After his college career Mira signed with the San Francisco 49'ers. George Mira is considered the founding quarterback of "Quarterback U".

From Heisman.com:

Testaverde won Miami’s first Heisman Trophy while leading the Hurricanes to an undefeated regular season in 1986.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Testaverde went to school at Sewanhaka High in Floral Park on Long Island, and graduated in 1981. He then went to Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Virg., for a post-graduate year of college preparatory work (1995 Heisman winner Eddie George also attended Fork Union) before signing with Miami in 1982.

The quarterback depth his freshman year was remarkable and included Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar and [former] Georgia [and Miami] head coach Mark Richt.

Testaverde threw for 79 yards in limited action as a 1982 true freshman and then redshirted in 1983 when Miami won the national title. He served as a backup to Kosar in 1984 before taking over the starting job as junior in 1985. Testaverde threw for 3,238 yards and 21 touchdowns that season and led Miami to a 10-2 record and a No. 9 final ranking.

His senior year was a magical one. Testaverde threw for 2,557 yards and 26 touchdowns (while also adding four rushing scores) as Miami finished the regular season 11-0 and ranked No. 1 in the country. Testaverde won the Heisman in a landslide over Temple’s Paul Palmer.

A loss to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl cost the Hurricanes another national title, but it didn’t dim Testaverde’s star.

Tampa Bay selected Testaverde as the first overall pick of the 1987 NFL Draft. He finished his pro career with 46,233 yards passing and 275 touchdowns, both among the top eight on the NFL career charts at the time of his retirement. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

For a couple of weeks now, it seems posts between lemmy.world and fanaticus.social have not been federating properly. I’ve seen a couple of posts make their way through, but the vast majority are not posting across instances. I believe admins on both sides are aware of the issue, so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I had to edit the last two posts. Seems that trying to do these posts while also getting a 2 year old and a 2 month old ready for the day, I forgot how to count. I think I got things corrected now.
