Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System

Hi. Is there an updated list of unofficial jellyfin repositores anywhere, and perhaps a few recommendations on which plugins are useful/recommended?

Hello everyone, Plex has a "feature" called passout protection but disabling it is hidden behind their paywall. Does Jellyfin allow for continuous playback until manually stopped?

I'm debating whether or not to buy Plex pass lifetime right now because it's on sale. But $95 is a lot of money just to be able to prevent Plex from stopping playback after 3 hours. If Jellyfin allows that I'm going to switch immediately but I can't find any clear answer to this question. Thanks for any help!

Update: Thanks for the responses. I've got Jellyfin set up now and just need to put some time into tinkering with my files to fix a few metadata issues.

Browser can find the domain and resolve the ip properly and load content. The app just says it can't find anything.

How can I debug it?

Visual media management

I am setting up a new Jellyfin server, and I am looking at using a NAS to host it through Docker. However, I don't want to make the mistake of forgetting about the power needed for live transcoding (MKV 480p -> MP4 (I haven't set up a good conversion method yet)). Are any of the following NAS options okay for standalone Jellyfin? If not, are there any cheap (CAD$200/USD$150 max) NUCs/computers/servers that are good for live transcoding?

just wanted to ask if anyone else is having this issue or if there is a known fix:

When opening Jellyfin on normal Android Clients, the Area displaying the available Media is reduced by quite a lot.

This is occuring in Portrait and Landscape Mode. It is particularly annoying in Portrait Mode though.

I didn't update my Server for quite some time. Today I updated and I suspect that the current/newest Version is the culprit here.

Is anyone else experiencing this or has a link to a thread where this issue was already discussed?

I'm also personally waiting for 10.9.1, there appears to be a small migration issue, and a memory leak.

As always, please ensure you stop your Jellyfin server and take a full backup before upgrading!

I recently added some files to my Jellyfin instance, and some of them had their metadata scraped incorrectly. This was no big deal, they weren't named very well. These files ended up being displayed in a "Season Unknown" season of the show. So I fixed the names, and the files' metadata was corrected automatically. However, the "Season Unknown" remained, with no media displaying in it. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi all, I moved away from Flex just yesterday and installed Jellyfin. Liking it so far, it's clean and uncluttered, but unfortunately it seems not all my files are being recognized and aren't showing in the library.

Mostly it looks like it's showing exclusively mkv files, but I have a bunch of Avi and vob files that used to be properly recognized in Plex. Any way to make those work?

I am running Jellyfin on Podman from Fedora 40 managed by systemd, using the official docker image. The container walkthrough mentioned other 2 alternative images, not sure if I should try one of them?

hi is there any local cloudflare alternative becourse from my reading it seems that that using it for jellyfin is against cloudflares TOS and i would like to get jellyfin to my domain but i dont wanna pay for it, so a loxal alternative would probably be my best bet, i also would prefer not to open any ports

I've found some discussions about hosting the Jellyfin server on lower end devices, but what about the client? I imagine the requirements to be pretty low, since a gen 2 Chromecast worked fine.

Has someone tried setting up a raspberry pi in kiosk mode? Can you suggest something cheap that would be good enough for 1080p?

Any recommended hardware device to ensure that I won't need to transcode in order to burn ASS and PGS subtitles?

Right now I have a FireTV but it only direct plays SRT.

In Libreelec I am using Jellyfin for Kodi. I have enabled force transcoding. I would like the subtitles in Jellyfin to be burned into the video with no exceptions. There's an option to disable subtitle extraction on the fly but this doesn't burn in the subtitles

Do any of you have any software you can recommend for removing unwanted audio tracks and subtitles? Some of my shows and movies have multiple, and the Roku app does not follow the users set default language, leading to it playing the wrong track when autoplaying.

I've tried unmanic, but its unfortunately too heavy for my server, just slows everything to a crawl.

So maybe i understood something wrong or maybe my settings are way off. Any way, i need your help.

I have two issues:

1. When i add a new show it SOMETIMES get's shown in "Latest Media / Latest Shows" sometimes it does not. For example, yesterday i added The Office, it was added to latest shows immediately, today i added Dracula and it's not added there despite me being able to find and watch it.

2. When watching an episode from a season that is not the very first it, the next episode will not be shown in Continue Watching. For example, i have all the Dimension 20 Seasons (i pay for Dropout but their video player is abysmal). Now i started to watch Season 20 and didn't watch the seasons before that. I watched the first episode of it, but it won't show me Episode 2 as "Continue Watching" or "Up Next"

Is anyone else facing similar issues?

does anyone know if an alternate or "modded" Android TV Version of the client exists?

I'd love to have intro skipping on my NVidia Shield but as far as i know this isnt possible? I can install the server plugin but i have to mount a modified web client for that; Maybe this is different for the android tv version?

Intro skipping is such a nice feature and i hope it someday gets upstreamed and properly implemented in all clients.

Heyho, i am a long time Plex user but since they go more and more corpo each day and i have a few .... otherwisely obtained assets in my library i want to make the switch to Jellyfin before i really HAVE to.

Everything works great so far! But i have a DVB-C access on my router and it can create a m3u playlist for me to simply plug into VLC for example. On plex this was super easy and i just had to reorder some channels here and there and then everything worked great.

Now i was able to put the m3u playlist into jellyfin and it manages to find the channels... but when i click on a channel i only get audio. the image stays black. My router shows me that the stream is going and shows the quality is good.

Also plex was able to actually grab the metadata of all the shows running.

Am i missing something?

Anyone have a good Live TV image for the My Media section?

I have a NUC-like Win10 PCs running the few different TVs at home. One jellyfin server + NUC with a Firefox browser running a separate user for each room living \ bed \ work rooms lets each TV play the same content as I'm working around cleaning up and doing chores. The hardest choice was it to be an DS9 or Voyager marathon Easter.

Each client is able to play\ pause \ resume and it just works, they all respond.

I am encountering an issue where any song becomes unplayable after I have updated parts of its metadata. I am using the "comment" field of the metadata to organize playlists. My music library is sorted into folders of artist and subfolders for albums.

I am using Rhythmbox Automatic Playlists to create playlists based on the comment field in the metadata. Rhythmbox is running on my PC, where also ny music library is located. That library is synced to my homeserver via Syncthing.

On my homeserver Jellyfin is running and looks at the synced music library. When I change the comment field of a song on my PC, Rhythmbox can see and play it normally. Syncthing detects the change and syncs it to my homeserver. When I then try to access the same song via Jellyfin, it is not playable. Only after manually deleting it from the server and placing it there again, e.g. by FileZilla, it becomes playable again.

Any ideas why this might be? Does Jellyfin not handle metadata changes well? Or is it an issue with Syncthing?
