Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe may already be considered one of the best players in the world with a World Cup and five Ligue 1 trophies under his belt.
But the Frenchman has yet to help his home city club win the trophy that has always eluded them - the Champions League.
On Tuesday the 25-year-old scored twice as PSG beat five-time champions Barcelona 6-4 on aggregate to reach the semi-final of Europe's top competition, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.
The first was a penalty - calmly smacked home after Joao Cancelo brought down Ousmane Dembele - before the ball came to him on the edge of the area in the 89th minute. Mbappe's first effort was denied by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but he smashed the rebound into the net to round off a superb night for PSG.
"I have the dream of winning the Champions League for Paris," said Mbappe.
"I'm proud to be at PSG since the first day. It's not because there are good times and bad times that my pride takes a hit. The pride of playing for this club, of representing the club of the capital of my country, it's something special for me who grew up there.
"To experience an evening like this one as a Parisian, it's great. We have one more step to go before we reach the final in Wembley, so we need to stay calm."
The double took Mbappe's goal tally to eight in 10 Champions League games this season.
"I just think some people seem like they are blessed from above that this is your time and it feels like that for Mbappe," former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said on TNT Sports.
"For his second goal, that's not falling to anyone else, but it falls to him because he is that guy."
Mbappe was kept quiet in the first leg in Paris and did not dazzle in Barcelona until scoring on 61 minutes, but PSG boss Luis Enrique praised his striker for his control in the game.
"He was a leader from start to finish, and when a team senses that a player as important as him is ready to bring everyone with him, you make the most of it," the Spaniard said.
PSG fans have been waiting for Mbappe to deliver them a much-anticipated and expected Champions League trophy.
There are even those that believe that, if he fails to do so, his career in Paris will be considered a failure with a move to Real Madrid planned this summer.
The expectation on Mbappe is high.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (23 goals in 39 games) has scored more times away from home in the knockout rounds of the Champions League than Mbappe (15 in 12 games).
"There is going to be a moment over the two legs [in the semi-final] where Mbappe has got to come to the fore," said Ferdinand.
"He is in the high-quality category of player."
So could it finally be Mbappe and PSG's time?
Listen to the latest Football Daily podcast
While PSG are on track to win a third successive Ligue 1 title and have now reached the last four in Europe, it has not all been plain sailing for Mbappe.
This is set to be his last season at his hometown club with a move to Spanish giants Real set for this summer.
In February Mbappe met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and told him he was leaving to join Real, where he will sign a five-year deal, earning 15m euros (£12.8m) a season, plus a 150m euro (£128m) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years.
Subsequently, Mbappe has dropped in and out of the team, either substituted on or off in five of PSG's past six league matches.
Despite that, he has still managed to score 41 goals in 42 games in all competitions.
PSG owners Qatar Sports Investments have made no secret of their main goal of winning Europe's elite competition, despite the Paris club winning nine Ligue 1 titles since the 2011 takeover.
The closest they have come to Champions League glory was in 2020 when they reached the final but were beaten by Bayern Munich.
Since then there have been disappointing last-16 exits and questions over whether this PSG side are truly capable of challenging Europe's elite.
But Mbappe is now just two wins away from a fairytale end to his PSG career.

Slow left-armer Underwood took 297 wickets in 86 Tests between 1966 and 1982, the most by any England spinner.
He claimed 2,465 wickets in 676 first-class matches overall, representing only Kent, the county of his birth, in a stellar 24-year domestic career.
Underwood was appointed an MBE in 1981 and was president of the Marylebone Cricket Club in 2009.
He also took 32 wickets in 26 one-day internationals and would have represented England more but for joining World Series Cricket in 1977 and the rebel tour of South Africa in 1981-82.
Nicknamed 'Deadly', Underwood was one of 55 inaugural members inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame when it launched in 2009.
Kent Cricket chair Simon Philip said the club is "in mourning following the passing of one of its greatest ever players".
He added: "Derek was an outstanding contributor to both Kent and England, winning trophies for club and country and etching his name in the history books forevermore."
Known for his high level of accuracy, Underwood would often bowl much quicker than most spinners but was also able to deceive batters with variations of pace and length.
He was particularly challenging to face on uncovered pitches that had been affected by rain, his faster pace helping to skid the ball on to batters quickly, while also able to extract turn on surfaces starting to dry out.
"Watching Derek weave his unique magic on a wet wicket was a privilege for all who were able to witness it," added Philip.
"His induction into the ICC Hall of Fame shows the esteem in which he was held in world cricket.
"An advocate for growing our game worldwide whilst protecting our sport's rich heritage, Derek also made substantial contributions off the field as well as on it, and he will be sorely missed by everyone at Kent Cricket."
Underwood is sixth on England's Test wicket-takers list, having taken 42 more scalps than the next spinner and seventh overall, Graeme Swann.
Born in Bromley in 1945, Underwood made his Kent debut in 1963 aged just 17 before making his Test debut against West Indies three years later.
He helped England to a famous win over Australia in the fifth Test of the 1968 Ashes at The Oval, taking the last four wickets to fall in just 27 balls during a frantic finale after the crowd had helped dry the ground following a rain delay.
Underwood formed a productive partnership for England and Kent with wicketkeeper Alan Knott. Both players joined Kerry Packer's breakaway World Series Cricket in 1977, pausing their international careers until after the competition ended in 1979.
Underwood's England career came to an end in 1982 when he joined a team led by Graham Gooch in touring South Africa, defying the sporting boycott of the country during the Apartheid.
He scored his first and only first-class century against Sussex in 1984 at the age of 39, having gone in to bat as a nightwatchman.
Underwood retired from cricket in 1987, having won three County Championships, two One-Day Cups, three National Leagues and three Benson & Hedges Cups for Kent.
England and Wales Cricket Board chair Richard Thompson said: "It is always a sad day when a great of the English game passes away.
"Derek Underwood will be remembered as one of the finest spin bowlers this country has ever produced, and his remarkable record is testament to his enduring skill.
"Our thoughts are with Derek's friends and family, everyone at Kent, and everyone who knew and loved him."
Derek Underwood, one of England and Kent's greatest ever bowlers, has died at the age of 78.

The Oklahoma City Thunder settled a historic contest for the top seed in the Western Conference on the final day of the NBA's regular season.
For the first time in the NBA, three teams had the same record after 81 games at the top of their conference.
The Thunder thrashed the Dallas Mavericks 135-86 to clinch top spot heading into the play-offs.
Defending champions the Denver Nuggets also won to seal the second seed while the Minnesota Timberwolves lost.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 15 points in just 15 minutes as Thunder thumped a Dallas team that rested most of their starters, with their play-off position having already been set - fifth in the Western Conference.
That meant Oklahoma City ended the regular season with a 57-25 record and a five-game winning streak to finish top of their conference for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
Denver beat the Memphis Grizzlies 126-111 to match a franchise high for wins (57-25) but the Thunder came out on top because of a head-to-head tie-breaker.

Minnesota had to settle for the third seed after losing 125-106 at home to the Phoenix Suns, who moved past New Orleans to secure the sixth seed in the Western Conference, following the Pelicans' 124-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
That meant Phoenix earned an automatic spot in the play-offs while New Orleans will have to play two games in the play-in tournament this week to secure their place in the post-season.
It is as you were for much of the Eastern Conference, where the Boston Celtics had run away with it. They rested most of their starters but still beat the Washington Wizards 132-122 to finish with the NBA's beat record (64-18), with Payton Pritchard scoring a career-high 38 points.
The Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers all went into the final day level (46-35), with the Miami Heat one win behind.
All won on Sunday so remain in the same positions from seeds five to eight, meaning the 76ers and Heat have to face the play-in tournament.
But Jalen Brunson scored 40 points as the New York Knicks beat the Chicago Bulls 120-119 in overtime to take the second seed from the Milwaukee Bucks, who were thumped 113-88 by the Orlando Magic.
The game started with high anticipation for the Gunners after Liverpool's shock home defeat by Crystal Palace, but Arsenal were desperately disappointing and well beaten as Villa boss Unai Emery made a winning return to his former club.
Arsenal were fortunate to remain on level terms for so long against the impressive visitors, who secured a deserved win to move three points ahead of Tottenham in fourth having played a game more.
The only surprise was that it took Villa until six minutes from the end of normal time to open the scoring - Ollie Watkins and Youri Tielemans hit the woodwork in each half before Leon Bailey finally broke the deadlock with a low finish at the far post.
Arsenal were kept out in the first half when Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a stunning save from Leandro Trossard, but the visitors wrapped up the win when Watkins raced clear in the 87th minute to loft a composed finish over David Raya.
It completed a perfect weekend for reigning champions City, with Pep Guardiola's side now two points clear of Arsenal who are ahead of third-placed Liverpool on goal difference.
'Was this the day the Premier League title tide turned?'
Reaction and analysis to Arsenal v Aston Villa
Gunners fluff their lines
Arsenal were presented with the perfect opportunity to strengthen their title chances after fellow contenders Liverpool lost 1-0 to Palace at Anfield in Sunday's earlier kick-off.
Instead, with a heavy weight of expectation, Arsenal produced one of their worst performances of the season and can have no complaints about the outcome.
The crucial moment of a tight, tense first half came when former Arsenal keeper Martinez somehow kept out Trossard's close-range shot just before the break when it seemed certain the Belgian would score.
After that Villa took charge.
The Arsenal side who won so convincingly in their previous league game at Brighton were never in evidence, with only captain Martin Odegaard providing the prompting, although he, like his colleagues, looked desperately jaded after the break.
Arsenal always looked vulnerable to Villa's pace on the counter and as the game entered its closing stages there was only going to be one winner - with Emery's side pressing forward and the Gunners hanging on.
This will be a day of bitter disappointment for Arsenal but, like Liverpool, they need to recover swiftly because they simply cannot afford any more mistakes with defending champions City now sitting ominously at the top.
Top class Villa get their reward
Villa deserved every moment of the celebrations they shared with the travelling fans at the conclusion of this outstanding win.
Emery's side carved out a huge result in the context of the chase for the top four, and no-one can begrudge them their triumph.
Indeed, the victory margin should have been even wider.
The visitors troubled Arsenal's back four throughout with Watkins rolling a finish against the post in the first half, before Tielemans' fine curling effort somehow stayed out in the second half - remarkably hitting the bar then the post.
Former Arsenal manager Emery set his side up perfectly and was a whirlwind of activity in his technical area as he directed operations.
It was all beautifully orchestrated. This entire performance was an illustration of Emery's expertise in galvanising Villa.
It may have taken a stunning save from Martinez to keep them level in the first half but no-one should suggest this was any sort of 'smash and grab'.
This was a hard-earned victory and totally worthy of how Villa played.

Masters champion Jon Rahm has called for the LIV Golf League to move to 72 holes and believes his lucrative switch to the breakaway tour could prove a "tipping point" in the ongoing battle for the future of men's professional golf.
The 29-year-old Spaniard is looking forward to his Augusta title defence this week having finished joint fourth at last week's LIV event in Miami, although he led his Legion XIII quartet to victory in the team event.
For the first time this year, all of the world's best players will be at the same venue when the Masters tees off on Thursday. The opening major of the 2024 calendar begins with the men's game still split as the PGA Tour explores a possible relationship with LIV's Saudi Arabian backers.
Before his move, Rahm was critical of LIV's abbreviated 54-hole duration and despite signing a contract reportedly worth £450m he believes his new employers should review their format.
Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "If there ever was a way where LIV could go to 72 holes I think it would help all of this argument a lot.
"The closer I think we can get LIV Golf to some other things the better. I think it would be for some kind of unification to feed into a world tour or something like that.
"I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I definitely wouldn't mind going back to 72 holes."
How to follow Masters on BBC
McIlroy consults Woods' former coach before Masters
Rahm remains an influential global star having added the Masters to his 2021 US Open title which was won at Torrey Pines in California. He had been a staunch LIV critic but shook the golfing establishment with his move at the end of last year.
He agrees with the notion that if LIV could lure him to their ranks, they are capable of securing the services of pretty much any leading player and have now proven themselves to be a significant part of the modern golf scene.
"That's a well thought out argument," he told me. "I could be the start of a tipping point in that sense.
"I understood the weight that [my] decision could have and the impact it could have. I understood that perfectly and that's why it wasn't an easy decision.
"The balance of golf could be disturbed a little bit. Luckily in my career, especially last year, I accomplished a lot and I got to be one of the bigger names in golf.
"There are few active players that could have had a bigger impact than myself in that sense. Not to be patting myself on the back too much, but I understood the position I was in."
Rahm points to the 6 June 2023 announcement of a "framework agreement" between the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the PGA and DP World Tours as a pivotal moment for him.
He, like all the leading players on both tours, was blindsided by the move and at the time spoke of a sense of "betrayal" by the tour's hierarchy. "I was not happy," he admitted.
"At the US Open trying to deal with something like that wasn't perfect timing.
"What we need to reflect on is the second that framework agreement was worked on, everything changed.
"And that's where the beginning of all this change happened. If it wasn't me (making the move) it would have been someone else at some point.
"If the PGA Tour is now open to working with the PIF or LIV or maybe coming together in some kind of way then that opened the door for me to do the same thing."
Behind the scenes this week the politicking will continue in the confines of the Augusta National clubhouse. Rumours are already circulating that PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan could be in attendance at the Masters.
But Rahm will put golf's future to one side to concentrate on defending his crown. Remembering 12 months ago he smiles at the way that he initially embarked on securing his first Green Jacket.
He began with a double bogey after four-putting the opening green. "I'm very happy to talk about it now," he laughed.
"It was very unusual. I hit a perfect tee shot, eight-iron to the centre of the green - so far according to plan - and then hit that first putt a little too hard and then misread the next two.
"I think the part that gets lost here is, obviously I'm not happy about doubling the first hole. But if you are going to make a mistake like that it might as well be early enough that you have plenty of time to rectify.
"Every single one of those putts felt good."
He bounced back with a birdie at the second and was able to satisfy what he regards as a key benchmark for the opening stretch through the cathedral pines of the famed Alister Mackenzie layout.
"I believe if you are on the seventh fairway at even par you are doing good. At Augusta National the first six holes can be really challenging.
"There are a lot of mistakes that can happen, a lot of bogeys that can happen so that was my challenge and actually I was on the seventh fairway at even par, made birdie on seven and I felt like there was no difference whatsoever."
Last year's tournament was blighted by the weather and Rahm was required to play 30 holes on the final day before emerging triumphant and joining fellow Spaniards Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia in winning the Masters.
"We played a lot of golf on the weekend," Rahm recalled. "The last one somewhat like that I believe was 2005. Tiger [Woods] was telling me he played 54 holes on the weekend because of weather delays."
He believes his form has been better in the month leading up to the tournament than it was a year ago when he posted three early PGA Tour wins. He dismisses the notion that LIV lacks the intensity of competition provided by his former circuit.
"I see everybody's scepticism," Rahm said. "I get it. I've been there, I voiced it to more people than most people would probably speak to.
"It was one of the things that was holding me back from possibly joining LIV Golf. But now, having been here, once you start the tournament I really sometimes have forgotten that I've only played 54 holes."
And he is convinced that he will get an added boost from now being qualified to use the ultra exclusive champions locker room.
"Going back and knowing that you're a champion and that you have an idea of how to get things done and the confidence that you know you can get it done again is always an added bonus," he said.
"It'll be a little different being defending champion but I should have a little bit extra motivation too."
He is looking forward to hosting a Basque themed champions dinner, featuring small local snacks called pintxos, on the Tuesday evening. Tradition (there are so many at the Masters) dictates he will pick up the tab, but readily and happily acknowledges he can well afford it.
Indeed, he is ready to revel in all that comes with being a winner of golf's most glamorous tournament. "It is quite incredible isn't it?" he smiled.
"Being able to go in that locker room and be surrounded by those players. It's a very exclusive club; very, very exclusive and very special.
"I'm hoping that I'm someone who can come back as defending champion and give it a good run and hopefully win it."
He would be the first to successfully defend since Woods 22 years ago. Given the seismic impact of his transition to the LIV tour, the implications of such a success would be significant.
The trunks worn by Muhammad Ali in his epic 'Thrilla in Manila' victory over Joe Frazier are expected to fetch more than $6m (£4.8m) at auction next week.
Ali's iconic white satin shorts went up for sale with renowned auction house Sotheby's on Thursday - and the bidding has already reached $3.8m.
The trunks, signed by Ali, were sold for $150,000 in 2012 but are likely to fetch 40 times that sum now.
The auction runs at Sotheby's New York branch until Friday 12 April.
The 'Thrilla in Manila', which took place in October 1975 in the capital of the Philippines, is one of the seminal bouts in boxing history.
Read more about the 'Thrilla in Manila', external
Frazier, nicknamed 'Smokin' Joe', had won the first meeting between the pair four years earlier, becoming the first man to defeat Ali when he successfully defended his world heavyweight title via unanimous decision in New York.
Ali won a controversial non-title rematch in 1974, paving the way for a rubber fight the following year, by which time he had regained the world crown by beating George Foreman in another iconic bout, the 'Rumble in the Jungle' in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
And the third meeting also went the way of Ali after 14 gruelling rounds when Frazier was retired by his corner team.
The bouts are considered by many to be the greatest trilogy in boxing history.
As well as being signed by Ali, the Everlast trunks are also inscribed by his corner man, Drew 'Bundini' Brown, who died in 1988 - they fetched just $1,000 (£800) when auctioned after his death.
Ali, one of sport's legendary figures died in June 2016 at the age of 74 after living with Parkinson's Disease for much of his post-boxing life, while Frazier passed away in 2011 at the age of 67.
I wish I could say I’m most disappointed this isn’t a romantic comedy, but I’m more disappointed this story doesn’t hold up to its own standards.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is the latest entry in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse featuring Toho Co., Ltd. giant monsters duking it out in combat.
Following the events of the prior movie, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” Godzilla lives on Earth’s surface fighting other titans that threaten to destroy the world. Meanwhile, King Kong now resides in the hollow Earth in isolation, trying to find other titan apes like him.
Kong finds and breaks a long sealed gate, finding his kin, but at a terrible cost. The surviving titan apes are led by the brutal tyrant, the Skar King, who now plans on leading the titan apes to conquer the surface world.
This movie can be divided into three stories that converge to our inevitable giant monster fight sequence. Those stories focus on Godzilla, Kong and our human protagonists.
Godzilla barely being in his own movies is par for the course for the series going back to his 1954 introduction, but what shouldn’t be depicted is a boring radioactive giant lizard. Godzilla’s plotline follows him gathering radiation for an upcoming threat that worries characters and painfully bores the audience when we know why Godzilla is collecting said radiation.
His warm-up fights before the climax are quick brawls that have little narrative stake and end the second they start.
Despite being a titular character to the franchise, Godzilla is woefully underutilized. Though I am sure his new Super Saiyan god rose form and the image of him curling up asleep in the Roman Colosseum will sell plenty of toys.
Our human plotline features the return of Jia (Kaylee Hottle), the last surviving child of an Indigenous tribe from Kong’s home island; Dr. Ilene (Rebecca Hall), a titan scientist and Jia’s adoptive mother; and Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry), a titan conspiracist.
Much like Godzilla, Henry’s character is also underutilized. Bernie is brought in because he thinks outside of the box, but I cannot think of one instance where Bernie contributes something that isn’t comic relief or expositing information anyone else can’t.
The main problem with the human characters is they are there to give information or provide a deus ex machina for our leading monsters. I can’t even say they’re poorly acted because they aren’t given much to do. The only human character who has a semblance of personality that isn’t a Wikipedia article is Trapper (Dan Stevens), an eccentric veterinarian who works on Titans.
This is a shame because we discover Jia has a psychic connection to Godzilla that could have been used as a bridge between the two once-bitter rivals. On top of that, her character arc of being the sole survivor of her culture not only mirrors Kong’s but is a sobering reality to our real world.
Kaiju, or giant monster, movies fall into one or two camps. The monsters are either a metaphor for an abstract concept and fear humans have or just an excuse for the audience to watch giant monsters wreak havoc.
This film falls in the latter territory, but it could have done both showing the isolation and alienation being the only one of your kind.
Kong’s story is the only thing saving this film and that makes me mad the rest of the film isn’t up to his standard. All of Kong’s story is told via expression, body language and music, not a word is spoken, save for when he’s forced to interact with humans. A viewer feels the pain of Kong’s loneliness, his quick wit or gentle demeanor with only a few small actions.
This is probably the best Kong has looked too, as the designers went all out in making his body a road map of what he has been through. He’s gained significant bulk, graying fur, a multitude of scars given to him from previous encounters and they somehow gave him a beard. The Kratos vibes are strong with Kong.
Then there is Kong’s moral dilemma when he’s forced to fight, and even kill, the only beings like him because they are morally corrupted by the Skar King. Skar King is like if you took every horror story about chimpanzees attacking people and stuffed it into an evil red sock monkey. Every action he does is a blend of sadism and cunning strategy to assert his rule of fear, making him this series’ best antagonist. Again, this is all shown visually because these segments of the movie respect the viewers’ intelligence.
Skar King’s rule among the titan apes can be seen in Suko, an infant titan ape, who becomes Kong’s apprehensive guide to the other titan apes. Suko, in fact, tries to kill our hero, but Kong’s stoic nature, strength and mercy are what make Suko realize Skar’s brutality and become a stalwart ally of Kong’s. The baby character used as a marketing ploy is given a character arc and is actually important. The Venn diagram between Kong and Kratos is a circle.
Kong’s story makes me mad because it shows the writers are capable of great subtle writing that for some reason isn’t applied to the rest of the film. Kong’s hero journey is easily the best part of the movie and, yes, that includes the monster fights.
Let’s not beat around the bush; most people are going to see this movie for the giant monster fights, and that’s OK. The fights are passable, dare I say even great with fun set pieces. There are around four major monster fights in this movie with five or so smaller skirmishes. While the monsters don’t look realistic, the special effects are at least pretty and make it so the monsters look distinct enough they don’t turn into two masses of gray wrestling.
This uniqueness even translates to the monster’s fighting styles. Looking at Skar and Kong, Kong is significantly heftier than his ape brethren and lets everyone know it when he swings his fists. He also uses his intelligence to set up traps when fighting swarms of enemies, making him a more lethal threat. Skar, though, uses his ape agility to his advantage, weaving in and out of combat almost like he’s playing with his food.
Fighting styles aside, these titans somehow feel incredibly diminutive. Rather than show these beasts at low-angle or wide shots to display their scale, what we see are mostly eye-level shots with nothing to show scale except themselves.
Also, while faster-paced movements give a range of action, it’s the slow heavy swings that emphasize the power these creatures have. The fact these are giant monsters slugging it out is what gave this universe an edge of uniqueness; however, it feels like we’re watching any “Avengers” action sequence.
Look, if you’re like me and love kaiju movies, especially “Godzilla,” you’re probably going to see this regardless of what I say. I want to emphasize though that while kaiju movies can be thought-provoking or action spectacles, they can and should be an adrenaline-fueled social critique.
“Godzilla” in 1954 accomplished this. “Godzilla Minus One” in 2023 accomplished this and “The New Empire” teetered so close to this but let its crown slip.
Rory McIlroy: World number two consults Tiger Woods' ex-coach Butch Harmon before Masters
Rory McIlroy has consulted Tiger Woods' former coach Butch Harmon in a bid to address the issues in his game prior to his latest bid to win The Masters.
World number two McIlroy will become the sixth player to win all four men's majors if he wins next week's Masters.
But with just one top-20 finish on the PGA Tour this season, the 34-year-old has sought Harmon's help.
Harmon, 80, worked with Woods for his first eight major wins before splitting with the then-world number one in 2002.
"I went last week to see Butch Harmon for a golf lesson," McIlroy told the I Can Fly podcast.
"I've seen him over the years, like once every few years. I'll say, 'Hey, Butch, can I just come see you and you can take a look and see what you think'."
McIlroy's long-time coach is fellow Northern Irishman Michael Bannon, although the four-time major winner has also worked with Englishman Pete Cowen.
Florida-based McIlroy added that when he was leaving for the airport for his trip to meet Harmon in Las Vegas, his daughter Poppy asked him where he was going.
When he said he was going for a golf lesson, McIlroy added: "She said, 'Dada, you already know how to play golf'. That's probably the best piece of advice I've gotten in the last three years."
Harmon has also coached Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Greg Norman to major triumphs.
McIlroy has made nine unsuccessful attempts at Augusta to complete the career Grand Slam, with his best finish a second place behind Scottie Scheffler in 2022, in addition to five other performances in the top 10.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” director Adam Wingard knew he’d be back for a follow-up after making 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong,” one of the rare blockbusters of the pandemic era (even with a simultaneous release on what was then known as HBO Max). He was nearing the end of production on the earlier film; they only had 30 or 40 shots left to complete. “I just figured out how to make a giant monster movie,” Wingard told TheWrap. “And here I was at the end of the journey.”
He thought about something Quentin Tarantino said about following “Django Unchained” up with another western, “The Hateful Eight”: that he wanted to make another western right away because at the end of “Django Unchained” he had just figured out how to make one.
“I really felt like there was a lot of unfulfilled potential that I knew now how to approach, and I was excited right out the gate into jumping back in because I felt like, having made ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ I had this newfound sense of confidence in terms of how to approach the monsters as fully realized characters and how to tell a movie from their point of view,” Wingard said. “It really excited me, the idea of being able to do a film that was very visuals-driven. We have large sections without dialogue and that was my big drive, making a film that the 10-year-old version of myself dreamed about.”
When he was a child watching Godzilla terrorize cities, Wingard always wanted as much Godzilla (or the other monsters) as possible. “That’s what I tried to lean towards,” he said.
And that’s exactly what he did with his film. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” which just opened and made a whopping $200 million worldwide (in its opening weekend!), is the oops, all monsters of the MonsterVerse. When a threat from Hollow Earth emerges, Godzilla and Kong have to put their differences aside to deal with this new menace. Godzilla powers himself up and has new glowing pink spines; Kong has a mechanical glove to go along with his magic ax. It’s deeply insane and hugely enjoyable.
On the human side of things Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry return from “Godzilla vs. Kong” and are joined by Dan Stevens, who Wingard worked with before on the cult hit “The Guest.” Stevens’ Trapper, a veterinarian for the kaiju, is an absolute hoot, easily the most enjoyable human character in the entire MonsterVerse.
“I’ve always been looking for another movie to work with Dan on and there wasn’t a project that had a character that he fit in,” Wingard said. Simon Barrett, who wrote “The Guest,” was working on “Godzilla x Kong” and together they decided to write a part for Stevens to play, instead of trying to fit him into some already established architecture. “That’s where Trapper came from,” he said. “We wrote him knowing that he could be your handsome, charming, charismatic leading man, but he’s also excited about all the quirks that go along with that and leaning into the real character actor-y kind of stuff. We knew we could have our cake and eat it too with Dan.”
Early in the production, Trapper was saddled with a monologue that revealed his backstory; Wingard remembers it being about him being stuck alone with hyenas in Africa. It was a moment that provided a ton of information about the character in a fairly condensed amount of time. But Wingard also really wanted to introduce Trapper along with the Greenflow song “I Got’Cha” from 1977, whose lyrics are also the name of the song. They played the song on set and Stevens sang along to it. “When we got an editorial, it was like ‘you can have Dan tell a monologue for two hours about his past’,” Wingard said. “And you’re not going to understand his character better than just having him sing ‘I Got’Cha’ for 15 seconds of the movie, because that just says everything you need to know about him.”
Godzilla X Kong hits $200M global box office milestone in under a week, surpassing expectations. The success of Godzilla X Kong is likely to exceed its predecessor, Godzilla vs. Kong, in domestic sales within first week. Despite mixed reviews, Godzilla X Kong received 92% audience approval, ensuring box office success.
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire soars past a major global box office milestone after less than one week in theaters. The second MonsterVerse film from Adam Wingard, Godzilla X Kong hit theaters this past weekend, on March 29. It continues the story from Godzilla vs. Kong and features a lead cast including Rebecca Hall, Rachel House, Dan Stevens, and Brian Tyree Henry.
As per Collider, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire has already surpassed a major global box office milestone. In only four days, Godzilla X Kong has made it past the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office.
Mohamed Salah fired Liverpool to the top of the Premier League as the Egypt star's clinical finish capped a stirring fightback to beat Brighton 2-1 on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp's side were rocked by Danny Welbeck's blistering strike after just 85 seconds at Anfield
Luis Diaz restored order with an equaliser later in the first half, before Salah netted after the interval to seal a vital victory.
Salah's third goal in his last three games was his 22nd in all competitions this term.
Unbeaten in their last six league matches, Liverpool sit three points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who face third-placed Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium later on Sunday.
An Arsenal victory would take them above Liverpool on goal difference. Any other result would keep Liverpool in pole position.
For the first time in 10 years, the Premier League's top three were separated by only one point after 28 games prior to this weekend's matches.
Thanks to Salah, treble-chasing Liverpool remain firmly in the hunt for a record-equalling 20th English title in Klopp's final season.
Unbeaten in their last 27 home league games, Liverpool are back in action at Anfield against lowly Sheffield United on Thursday.
After former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso confirmed he intends to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi is a reported candidate to replace Klopp when the German steps down at the end of this term.
Klopp is a big fan of De Zerbi's attacking philosophy and praised him as a "top coach" this week.
Playing for the first time since their painful FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Manchester United before international break, Liverpool had a shocking taste of De Zerbi's enterprising tactics after just two minutes.
- Salah strikes -
Brighton's Simon Adingra broke quickly in a devastating counter-attack that caught Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley out of position.
When Virgil van Dijk's scuffed clearance rolled to Welbeck just inside the penalty area, the Brighton forward lashed a strike into the top corner to leave Klopp shaking his head.
Salah was making his first league start since New Year's Day after an injury-plagued beginning to 2024.
Looking to make up for lost time, Salah nearly grabbed the equaliser with a curler that whistled just wide.
The Egypt forward threatened again from Bradley's cross, but he couldn't keep his shot on target from a good position 10 yards out.
Liverpool's dominance was rewarded in the 27th minute when Brighton failed to clear Salah's header from a corner and Diaz volleyed home from close-range.
Darwin Nunez's agile effort from flat on the turf was saved by Bart Verbruggen just before the break.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Max Allister squandered a chance against his former club with a header that flashed narrowly wide early in the second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai fired past the far post from 20 yards, while Nunez was denied by Verbruggen at the near post.
Mac Allister was catalyst with a perfectly-weighted pass that picked out Salah's run into the area and the forward dispatched a composed low finish past Verbruggen.
In a tense finale, former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana should have punished his old team, but he rolled his shot wide to Klopp's immense relief.
Boxing fans surrounded by chocolate egg remnants can indulge further into Easter Sunday evening with a tasty heavyweight showdown as Fabio Wardley faces rival Frazer Clarke.
The two unbeaten Britons - who collide at London's O2 Arena - have trodden very different paths towards arguably the most high-profile fight of their respective pro careers.
British and Commonwealth champion Wardley, 29, has only been boxing for seven years, in which time he has progressed from the unlicensed white collar scene - and no amateur career - to 17 pro wins.
"I've shown that I'm a very good and well-rounded boxer although I do get involved in scraps here and there," he says.
Clarke meanwhile is the better schooled of the pair - a product of TeamGB whose amateur accolades include an Olympic bronze medal at Tokyo 2020.
As a pro, however, the 32-year-old from Burton upon Trent is yet to set the world alight but still feels his experience will prevail in a contest billed as "bad blood".
"[Wardley] has knocked a lot of people out and looked devastating but he's not been in the ring with Frazer Clarke yet," he says.
"Myself, I know too much. I'm working too hard. I hit hard as well. I'm too fast, too knowledgeable, too switched on, too good looking, too sexy, too strong, too much of a beast."
Year in the making
Despite Wardley and Clarke being fairly respectful towards each other in fight week, there has been plenty of back and forth between the fighters and their teams over the past year.
The heavyweights were ordered to fight for the British title in April 2023 but Clarke's team withdrew on the day of scheduled purse bids.
"He's a good fighter but there is definitely an authentic tone of bad blood," Wardley says.
"The timing of it all and him waiting until the last minute and dropping out on the day... He was constantly wasting a lot of people's time."
The Ipswich fighter stopped David Adeleye in October in a career-best performance, while Clarke's stock dropped after an unspectacular points win over Poland's Mariusz Wach and a stoppage victory against the overmatched Dave Allen.
"I almost feel like he's being looked after and they're trying to keep him safe and make sure he's well cuddled on his initial ride in the pro ranks," Wardley adds.
"Making that leap from very casual, unambitious opponents to someone like me - who has been fighting top-level opponents for the past two years - is a very large jump. And I think he'll find that quite a surprise. "
There is more than just undefeated records and the coveted British and Commonwealth belts on the line in South East London.
With the riches and lure of the heavyweight division - largely down to Saudi Arabia's recent investment in the sport - the winner will put himself forward for some potentially lucrative bouts.
Wardley, who earned a career-high payday against Adeleye in Saudi Arabia, is tipped by many as the next British heavyweight star.
With the likes of WBC champion Tyson Fury and two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua are arguably at the back end of their careers, Wardley says a win over Clarke will take him some way towards achieving his world title dream.
"The guys at the top don't really have too much longer left, between all of them probably two or three years, if that," Wardley says.
"The belts will also fragment in that time as well - so being well positioned with all the governing bodies is the aim after I get past Frazer."
Former President Donald Trump on Friday posted a video that featured an image of President Joe Biden tied up in the back of a pickup truck.
Trump indicated that the post was filmed on Long Island on Thursday, when he was attending the wake of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was killed during a traffic stop this week. The video shows two trucks with flags and decals expressing support for Trump; the image of Biden was on the back of the second truck.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement, “That picture was on the back of a pick up truck that was traveling down the highway. Democrats and crazed lunatics have not only called for despicable violence against President Trump and his family, they are actually weaponizing the justice system against him.”
Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler told CNN in a statement, “This image from Donald Trump is the type of crap you post when you’re calling for a ‘bloodbath’ or when you tell the proud boys to ‘stand back and stand by.’ Trump is regularly inciting political violence and it’s time people take him seriously — just ask the Capitol Police officers who were attacked protecting our democracy on January 6.”
The video marks another instance of Trump using dark and violent imagery in his campaign messaging as his penchant for inflammatory rhetoric appears to be buoying his White House bid.
Trump warned earlier this month that if he were to lose the 2024 election, it would be a “bloodbath” for the US auto industry and the country.
The remark came as Trump promised a “100% tariff” on cars made outside the US, arguing that domestic auto manufacturing would be protected only if he is elected. The comment also came in the midst of an extended riff on the auto industry, unions, the transition to electric vehicles and auto plants in Mexico.
The former president said in December that migrants are “poisoning the blood” of the US and quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin to attack Biden as a “threat to democracy.”
His comments align with a pattern of expressing fondness for foreign leaders who use anti-democratic measures to maintain power.
In another instance, Trump used the word “vermin” to describe his political rivals at a campaign event in New Hampshire in November, drawing broad condemnation, including from Biden, who likened his comments to “language you heard in Nazi Germany.”
Trump told the crowd: “We will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country,” and warned that “the real threat is not from the radical right. The real threat is from the radical left, and it’s growing every day.”
