NEW YORK AND TORONTO (May 16, 2025) – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced the schedule for the 2025 PWHL Finals, presented by Scotiabank, between the Ottawa Charge and the defending Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost. The teams will compete in a best-of-five series, beginning Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. ET at Ottawa’s TD Place.

Ottawa advanced to the PWHL Finals with a 2-1 win over the Montréal Victoire on Friday night to secure a 3-1 series victory. Minnesota eliminated the Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday night following a 4-3 overtime victory to win the semifinal series 3-1.

This marks the second straight season that the PWHL Finals will feature the league’s two playoff underdogs competing for the Walter Cup. Ottawa (12-2-4-12) and Minnesota (10-5-4-11) finished in third and fourth place, respectively, during the regular season with 44 points each. The Frost won last year’s championship in five games as the fourth-place team over third-place Boston, while the Charge are making their first appearance in the PWHL Finals.

Benn was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for roughing Scheifele in Game 5 of their second-round series on Thursday night, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Friday.

The fans in Winnipeg had a creative response after a goal was taken off the board for the Jets in Game 5 Thursday night against the Dallas Stars.

Mark Scheifele put the puck in the net for a second time late in the second period, but the goal was quickly called back because Scheifele redirected the puck with his hand, not his stick.

While there was really no dispute about the goal, the fans in Winnipeg responded with a loud chant of "should have kicked it" as the final seconds of the frame ticked down.

That chant, of course, is a reference to a controversial play in Game 3 of the series when Alex Petrovic scored a goal for the Stars after appearing to kick the puck towards the net. On that play, after a lengthy review, the NHL kept the goal on the board because Connor Hellebuyck "propelled" the puck into the net.

Adam Lowry scored the winner at the 16:08 mark of the second overtime frame to complete a late rally as the Winnipeg Jets advanced to the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues in Game 7 on Sunday night.

Down two goals with under two minutes to play in regulation, Vladislav Namestnikov scored with the extra skater on the ice to make it a 3-2 game, before Cole Perfetti potted the equalizer with 1.6 seconds remaining to send the contest to overtime.

Okay, I'm really sorry. I don't wanna rag on Leafs fans, you don't deserve it, but I just couldn't not post this.

No criminal charges will be brought against Matt Petgrave, the Canadian hockey player involved in a tragic on-ice accident that led to the death of fellow player Adam Johnson.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed Petgrave would not face charges on Tuesday, April 29, with Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Michael Quinn saying, “there is not a realistic prospect of conviction for any criminal offense.”

“This was a shocking and deeply upsetting incident,” Quinn said. “The CPS and South Yorkshire Police have worked closely together to determine whether any criminal charges should be brought against the other ice hockey player involved… Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Adam Johnson.”
