The Big 12 is rapidly getting bigger, as the school's presidents and chancellors voted unanimously to formally add Utah and Arizona State on Friday night. They were introduced along with Arizona, which was approved Thursday. The additions bumped the league's membership to 16 teams beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.

LSU has a new, more "transparent" injury reporting policy that football coach Brian Kelly described Thursday as a "proactive" response to the proliferation of legalized sports betting.

For Kelly, one concern is the specter of gamblers hounding football staffs for insider information. "I'm not saying that happened. I'm not saying that would happen," Kelly said. "I think it's better to be proactive in those situations and take away even the temptation to even have that in this building and not be that next school that goes down that path."

In an interview with 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh, N.C., Cunningham responded to comments Florida State president Richard McCullough made during a board of trustees meeting Wednesday. McCullough told the board that the Seminoles would "very seriously" consider leaving the ACC unless there is a radical change to the conference's revenue distribution model.

"I don't think it's good for our league for them to be out there barking like that," Cunningham said on "The Adam Gold Show." "I'd rather see them be a good member of the league, support the league and if they have to make a decision, then so be it. Pay for the exit fee, wait for your grant of rights that you've given and then in 2036, when those rights return to you, do whatever you want."

The ACC has a television contract with ESPN that runs through 2036.

Gambling investigations at Iowa and Iowa State have now resulted in criminal charges filed against seven current or former athletes, with ex-Hawkeyes basketball player Ahron Ulis and Cyclones quarterback Hunter Dekkers the ones with the highest profiles. Each is accused in the complaints of tampering with records related to an Iowa Criminal Division investigation into sports gambling. Current athletes also could face a loss of eligibility for violating NCAA gambling rules. According to Johnson County online court records, charges have been filed against Ulis, Iowa baseball player Gehrig Christensen and Iowa kicker Aaron Blom.

Since the first major realignment dominoes fell with Texas and Oklahoma’s decision to leave the Big 12 for the SEC happened in summer 2021, the ACC has explored possible expansion options, according to multiple league administrators, running models on adding a number of potential targets, including West Virginia, SMU, Oregon and Washington.

The looming suspension is tied to an NCAA recruiting investigation into Michigan in which Harbaugh faces a Level I violation, the most serious kind in the NCAA's purview, for not cooperating with NCAA enforcement. While the suspension and negotiations with the NCAA have not been finalized, the expectation is that Harbaugh would miss the first four games of Michigan's season. That includes four home contests in which Michigan is the prohibitive favorite — East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers.

If you have been following my daily Kickoff Countdown threads, you will know that we are just over a month out from our first college football game of the 2023 season. We are quickly approaching 200 local subscribers (officially the second largest community on fanaticus.social) and it would be great to have a couple more mods here to help me out when the season starts.

If you are a current/past mod of r/cfb or if you are just willing to help me out with this community, please let me know. I am wanting to update the banner/logo before the season, so if you have some graphic design skills or ideas on what we can do please comment below!

I don’t know how much of r/cfb we want to bring over to Lemmy, i.e. user polls/banner updates/etc, but please feel free to tell us how you would like to see this community run for this upcoming season. We don’t have any set rules beyond the Fanaticus instance rules but we may want to start thinking about some before the season kicks off.

We should be able to get some game day bots running, but I don’t know if it is feasible at the moment to do every game for all 120+ FBS teams every week. We will have to share server resources with NFL and MLB game bots unless someone is willing to self-host their team’s game bot.

I look forward to hearing from any and all of you! Hopefully we can make this community a worthy r/cfb replacement!
