Guessed at the species but it doesn't seem like a hard one. I guess they're supposed to be fairly common, but this is the first one I've stumbled onto. For being so common, the wiki on them is really short! Anybody have an interesting margined leatherwing trivia?

Or one of its early stages at least. Very distinctive in this stage. They've overrun the entirety of NJ, one day we will all be spotted lanternflies!

Sorry, I am still trying to get picture if this bug I've been seeing in my vehicle. (Partially converted school bus)

Sidebar said arthropod, web search said exoskeleton, which this doesn't seem to have, but it's so small I can barely see it unless it's right in my line of sight and I just stare.

If there is any better place to ask for help for ID please let me know. Really sorry to bungle coming here if it's not appropriate.

I will be posting a picture as soon as I can find one of them again. I lost it as soon as I grabbed my phone.

I've seen them around some boards I brought in, and some small brush debri around the entrance.

Is there any possible bug that could be a serious issue which matches this description at some stage of it's life? Could I need to tear everything down and treat the space for anything which might match this?

They disappear for a little while if I spray some essential oils like geranium, lemongrass, and maybe cedar (forgot everything I hastily put in this mix).

Sorry again if this is just a bad post or the wrong place.

I'm heading out to get some diatomaceous earth today, hopefully that does something. (I have ants right now as well, so that might be helped by that at least).

Edit: Grain or Flour moth larvae? Is there a stage where these are almost imperceptibly small? Do these fit the above description at all? Sorry for this mystery quest.

Edit: I added a photo of a bug I found while sifting a bag of mass harina I had (right near where I first saw the original worm like bugs). Though, I had already moved this out of the area and into a garage with a load of other items during the initial investigation. So, can't be sure exactly where this came from. Maybe a silverfish?

This is a nightshade eating machine, they're tiny at the mo, but will be really big when all fattened up.

this little guy and his friend were on my dill, so I brought them in and fattened them up with Parsley. the friend has changed and this one probably will tonight or tomorrow, when they emerge I'll release them back into the garden

For years I’ve gone hiking and camping and do a lot of photography. Some of my favorite photos have been macros of various bugs doing their thing. This year I wanted to focus on finding more bugs and trying to take pictures of as many different species in my region as possible.

I’ve been looking for an arthropod equivalent of a birding guide for my area (New York), but have only found a single book that’s 13 years old. It’s “Insects of New England and New York” by Tom Murray. Is this one good? Are there any others I’m not finding? Do these books become outdated? I imagine this book doesn’t feature the infamous spotted lantern fly, so I wonder if it’s missing anything else. It’s also limited to insects, so I’d need something else for spiders and other non-insect bugs.

I’ve found a few websites too, but the best one I’ve found is also limited to insects. So any resources or tips would be greatly appreciated.

This was probably the first insect I ever truly appreciated as a youngster. The best part is that these guys generally let you take cool pictures of them right up close. Although, sometimes they do fly away suddenly...

I love these little guys. I saw this one on my driveway baking in the sun and relocated them to a flower using a stick for a photo shoot. After 15 minutes or so our little friend here scurried away into some leaf litter. 💚

Looks like a dragonfly, flies like a moth.

Edit: the likeliest candidate is an Old House Borer without antennae.

There are three wings, so I guess it lost one of them. There's also a big hole in the head (shown in last pic) and some of the legs appear to be missing. Sorry for the shitty photos, I took them on my phone.

I'm in the middle east in case that helps narrow it down. Very hot few days probably have something to do with it.

Where are they coming from? Are they hiding somewhere in my apartment? They seem to be flightless. They are all the same size and very small, here's one on my finger for scale:

I've lived in Australia for over 5 years now and I've never seen this bug before. Tried all sorts of Google search keywords to no avail.

Found it hanging on my window. I live in Central Victoria.

Does anyone know what this is?
