How come very less ppl are using Samsung beta/Samsung Browser. It's very fast, has system wide dark mode, video assistant and supports customisation. Maybe give it a try as well. P.s. Using Adguard App in conjugation.

I switched from Chrome two months ago to Opera partly because I thought the UI was fun and it gave me some comfortability with trying out other browsers because I was not happy with the web speeds from Chrome especially when I have too many pages open (and the privacy and data problems).

Opera has treated me well but I still find it takes up too much RAM on my PC, despite it being advertised as not. Also learned it is owned by a sketch Chinese company? Are there any recommendations for someone who is trying to branch out a bit more? I definitely care about security when browsing.

PS: I do not care much about the built-in VPN for Opera because I have ExpressVPN. I also hated the sidebar and thought a lot of the UI does look cluttered until I edited it to match my taste (which I very much enjoyed the customizability of it). Maybe I'm not using it to the best of its ability but..

Part of the problem with websites, browsers and operating systems in the 2020s is that it seems like they are constantly trying to talk to you.

  • Google Chrome and Gmail are constantly asking me if I want to use X kiddy version of their services. No, I want the version from 10 years ago, shut up and leave me alone.
  • Google Chrome is constantly notifying me of blocked pop ups. Holy shit, how have the retards who create this garbage not realized how infuriating it is to receive a popup... notifying me of a blocked pop up? Just block the fucking popups and stop seeking my validation.
  • "You downloaded this you downloaded that... are you sure you want to download this" ... yes I am sure I want to download this shit, Jesus Christ stop fucking asking me all the time.

All in all the shitty design of web browsers is making me want to quit the internet for good. It's like every browser makes the default assumption that nobody knows how to use the internet in 2023 and they all need to be supervised by a built-in nanny that NEVER stops pestering them with questions or popups. I just want a 1990s internet experience where my browser doesn't assume I am retarded or a child and I am able to take back control. What's the best browser for me?

I made a video and see how the tabs open (at least for me).

do you see an X when you open the tab? it's like a millisecond double two X's.

I was not sure where to post this, but I figure someone here will be able to help me.

Since I recently switched from Opera to Brave, I have to sign into most of my sites on Brave. When I tried to sign in to Pocket, it forced me to do so through Firefox. This meant signing in with my Firefox password, rather than my Pocket password.

When I finally got in, I saw I had only three Saves, all of them old. Also, Firefox says my Pocket user name is "Pocket user", not the Pocket name I've always had.

For the time being I still have access to my Pocket account and my Saves on Opera, but how long will that last?

Can someone please suggest something I can do to save my Saves? Many thanks in advance.

I know there will a be a flood of recommendations. But how do you actually choose a VPN?

What do you look in it? Only servers quantity and speed? Is that all?

There are countless VPNs like Nord, Cyberghost, Surfshark, Mullvad, Windscribe, etc. At one glance, I see all are same, just a VPN software that you download, connect to a country and start browsing.

Then what's the difference in them?

So glad I found floorp.

I used Firefox for years in the 2000s-2010s. Gave up on it for Chrome. I don't remember why.

Chrome became a bloat mess. Been on Edge the past year and enjoying it.

But now I found Floorp. I forgot how fun a browser can be when it's customizable. And it's got my vertical tabs, which Edge got me addicted to!

I'm still using Edge for work related stuff.

But Floorp will be my daily driver.

Any Floorp tips from the peanut gallery?

Signed, Floorp and Edge user

I was using Brave and liked it enough, although I'm not keen on it being built on Chromium or being associated with crypto.

I built a new pc and have been trying FireFox, it seems alright, uses a lot less memory then Brave. I've read though that Brave has better privacy? Is that true?

Priavy is my number 1 concern, within reason. I understand that I'll never be 100% anonymous.

Now I know this sounds vauge at first and you might say "it depends on the use case". Yes, I know.

By most optimized, I mean fastest DOM content render time (I have a 1GB network connection) and javascript execution, I do not care about how much resources it consumes (RAM, CPU, etc..). I want it to also (optionally) be compatible with most modern day web elements. A adblocker would be good to have but I can also add uBO afterwards. I've tried out Chrome, Brave, Thorium(), Vivaldi, Florp, Firefox, Librewolf and much more. Please leave your opinion in the comments for the fastest browser. If you also know a similar type of browser for android feel free to leave it there as well! (It must atleast have a adblocker built in or as a option or extension support)

Hey everyone, i'm planning to switch to Brave after using Chrome for years.

My question was, i use Gmail and YouTube frequently so how do i combat Google from collecting my data, i'm not comfortable using anything else since i have alot of accounts on websites/services with my Gmail.

Thanks.

I've been kind of into browsers for a little but I'm not super knowledgeable on the subject and I just discovered this sub so I need some advice from people who know more than me. I currently use Firefox as my main browser (only using Chrome for school or work if I have to) and have been for some time. It works great and I love its privacy and everything but some of the UI isn't my favourite and it's not got as much customization as I would like. I've been considering using more than one browser for maybe six months. I think I heard Opera was good but you can never tell with these things. Any suggestions or pros and cons would be appreciated

So, I'm having problems with firefox and its having random issues in websites. Sometimes things dont load or work in a certain website but when I try using them on edge it works flawlessly. I've been looking for a browser that's essentially similar to Firefox and secure.

So yesterday, after reinstalling Windows I decided to try Floorp. And to my surprise, it works as fast as Chrome, that I've been using for years. So it turns out that Firefox can be fast, but Mozilla is too incompetent to make it actually run good. I'll test it for a few more days, to see if it can become a browser for a daily drive. But so far it's great!

Trying out Sidekick, Ferdium, Station, RamBox now.

Curious to hear what people's opinions are on these, and if there are any I'm missing.

I used Google Chrome most my life until I fell in love with Opera GX for 2 years and I loved it. The features and sidebar just so god damn good and marketing 10/10 and lots of other crap. But learnt about the privacy risks and deepdriving into this subreddit so for over a year I've tried out all sorts of browsers.

Firefox, Librewolf, Floorp, Pulse, Brave, Vivaldi, Sidekick, Ungoogled Chromium, Edge, Tempest, Ulaa, Ferdium, Pale Moon, Tor, Otter, Opera, Opera GX etc.

I've tried all this and realise that each have great issues like: buggy experiences, shitty UI, insane RAM usage, has nothing to offer so why even exist, late updates, slow on google products like YouTube, incompatibility with certain sites, shitty popup video I use 24/7, insane bloat, lack of workspaces I use always and no good google extension substitute etc etc.

There are literally so many other things I value yet hold privacy over it to such a great extent out of self inflicted fear mongering to ignore my immediate life meanwhile literally everyone else is fine using Google Chrome. Ik all the answers to "Why should I care about privacy?" but really why? It doesn't affect my immediate life...my small bubble and caring so much about this dumb shit open source shit just worsens my experience and a waste of time I mean please what is Opera China gonna find out what porn I watch and send it to my parents? Are they going to use this info against the US like tiktok for war? Dumb us down? And I should care because this affects me when I close my screen offline why?

I'm over it and it's a waste of time. If I log in to my bank then I'd care and use librewolf sure but otherwise the entire user experience is lessened the more you care about privacy lets be real and tried using Brave which is the best for compromising with privacy and usability but still not all I truly want because privacy care is holding me back and I say fuck it. I don't care anymore.

I'm trying out Sidekick again since I liked it, test out edge again since it's been ages but god damn it's overwhelming with crap bloat features I may say "idc fuck that shit" and go straight back to Opera GX if I don't like the two others. I really like the browser and it has almost everything I value other than privacy but I don't care I'll take what I get at face value. It's a losing battle and not even that greatly impactful anyway. I've just installed fear into myself for the dumbest of reasons I just don't care anymore it's a waste of time and effort since nothing is perfect and imma be using this shit everyday might as well use the browser I like the most.

Going to watch YouTube while reading yaoi manga's now on Opera GX and if any Chinese spies want to read with me then join in the more the merrier, see ya 👋

After trying a lot of browsers, I've come to the conclusion there is no perfect browser for me, and I should use something that is just good enough, but I could be wrong.

My ideal requirements are these:

Free. I don't want to pay.

a sidebar as opera (the panels should support extensions), private (not as overkill as TOR but as long as i'm not tracked I don't care if my OS is sent), PWA support, and as fast as possible.

Here's a list of some of the browsers I've tried

Vivaldi: pretty good overall, but: The sidebar does not support extensions, no (custom) ad block, no dark reader, no userstyles/scripts... Also, I don't really like the UI, even after theming it, and you cannot drag and drop from the download panel.

Firefox: Some features of some websites I use don't work, such as Photopea, where you cannot use the local files feature. I would love to use firefox or its forks but...

For that reason Floorp, Pulse, and any other firefox forks are sadly discarted for me.

Opera: Not private, does not support PWAs, cannot use custom search engines unless you use a tampermonkey script

Brave: The sidebar does not have panels at all, so it's basically a shortcut panel, they have disabled the filesystem feature from Photopea too, but this time for security reasons, tho I really like it's sync capabilities

Sidekick: I tried this one and it was GREAT, the sidebar worked with extensions perfectly, I liked the UI, it supported both PWAs and websites, maybe a bit slows BUT: after 7 days you need to pay for even the panels to work.

Same with Stack Next, paid, and also it does not support extensions.

Ulaa: great, and the fastest (aside from Google Chrome) according to my testing, but PWAs don't start after creating them (if I make a PWA it opens correctly, but when I close it and want to open it through the shortcut, or the task bar, it does not open again. Also, does not have a opera-like sidebar

The same PWA bug ocurred with Tempest browser too. If anyone knows a fix, tell me.

Edge: the sidebar does not use extensions either.

Chrome: The fastest according to my testing, but no sidebar and not private at all

Thorium, ungoogled chromium, Tempest: both much slower than Google Chrome. No sidebar either.

Another bug I encountered, in ALL browsers except for Pulse browser, is that discord randomly logs out. Always when I restart the browser, but some times I don't even need to. In Vivaldi it's the worst. whenever I close the tab it's logged out. If there's a fix for that I would love it

So. Do you know any browser that fits my ideal requirements, or should I use the most similar.

Also, if you know a fix for any of the bugs, I would love to read it too.

I currently use firefox, i have been using it the past year or so, my experience with firefox hasn't been bad, but hasn't been "perfect"

the browser uses wayyy too much ram for just a couple tabs open, i like the ui, the privacy of firefox, but the browser sometimes is very slow and sometimes websites refuse to load.

would brave be a good option?

ad blocker built in and privacy out of the box sounds really good.

but what always worried me about using brave, and probably always will, is the crypto stuff,

would it be safe to go to brave? ive missed having a chromium browser.

chrome, edge, opera, are really bad for privacy

vivaldi just never worked for me, way too much bloated and even slower than firefox and also uses more ram than firefox (somehow)

i wouldnt want to go back to chrome to be brutally honest. the only thing chrome has going for it is the syncing features, but everything else, hell no.

Brave probably would be perfect in my case to be honest, a chromium browser, privacy out of the box, ad blocker built in, (ill add ublock origin ofcourse)

what do you say?

thanks.

Top 5 or however many. Ik the browsers that are recommended a lot here I've been on here for quit some time. Brave, all firefox forks like floorp pulse librewolf, vivaldi, arc (come to windows soon gosh darn it), opera, ungoogled chromium etc.

But then I saw two posts now about sidekick browser and honestly I kinda like it. I like it over Vivaldi tbh and will continue trying it out but made me realise how I've never heard about any of this. Are there other niche browsers or smaller projects that I'm missing out on? How do I even find them? Tried searching myself but all articles don't lead to any underdogs that aren't already mentioned here 100 times.

I have been looking around the web for quite a long time to find a very good browser with alot of privacy , which is very fast in terms of loading pages and videos , I don't want something that is like very complex and has alot of fetures I would never use. I want a browser that loads fast and is great for watching movies and Anime , Youtube and downloading files , that is mostly what I use the internet for.
