A controversial Little Britain sketch is “explicitly racist and outdated”, and it is surprising it is still available on BBC iPlayer, according to audience research by Ofcom.

The regulator showed people a number of clips of television as part of a study into audience expectations on potentially offensive content across linear TV and streaming services.

One sketch from Little Britain, originally broadcast in 2002 and available on iPlayer, shows David Walliams as university employee Linda Flint describing an Asian student, Kenneth Lao, over the phone to her manager.

He is described as having “yellowish skin, slight smell of soy sauce … the ching-chong China man.”

The scene is accompanied by a laugh track.

The Celestial Toymaker is reportedly set to be the next classic Doctor Who story to get its lost episodes restored in an animated release.

The reported restoration looks set to come just in time for the eponymous Toymaker to return for the 60th anniversary specials, which begin airing in November 2023.

The Daily Mirror reports that episodes will receive an animated release imminently after the original master tapes of the 1966 story were wiped.

The fourth episode of the four-part story was the only episode in the BBC archives after a recording from Australia was given to the BBC in 1984.

It was later released on DVD as part of the Lost in Time box set of partially lost stories.

The drink had all the hallmarks of a beverage sensation. Striking design, bold font, and the punchy name Release. But inside, each bottle was filled with urine allegedly discarded by Amazon delivery drivers and collected from plastic bottles by the side of the road.

That didn’t stop Amazon from listing it for sale, though. Release even attained number one bestseller status in the “Bitter Lemon” category. It was created by Oobah Butler for a new documentary, The Great Amazon Heist, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK today.

The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who's first story, An Unearthly Child, won't be included in the back catalogue of episodes hitting iPlayer this November.

...

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "This massive iPlayer back catalogue will be home to over 800 hours of Doctor Who content, making it the biggest ever collection of Doctor Who programming in one place but will not include the first four episodes as we do not have all the rights to those."

From 1st November, fans will be able to watch hundreds of episodes from 1963 to the present day, across the show's classic and modern runs.

Not only that, but various spin-off series will also return to iPlayer – including The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, Class and behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.
