Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston reveals his brutal conditions for returning to Doctor Who. Eccleston was the first actor to portray the Doctor in its modern era following its revival in 2005. While he successfully brought the iconic Time Lord back to the screen, he abruptly departed the show after just one season, leading to David Tennant taking over the role. Of all the actors who have portrayed the Doctor in its revival era, Eccleston served the shortest stint and declined to return during its anniversary specials.

While speaking at For The Love Of Sci-Fi 2023 (via The Direct), Eccleston laid out the brutal conditions for his return to Doctor Who. He didn't mince his words as he called for the show to fire various executives behind the show, namely returning showrunner Russell T. Davies. Only if all these major Doctor Who and BBC executives are sacked will Eccleston return to the show. Check out his statement below:

Sack Russell T Davies. Sack Jane Tranter. Sack Phil Collinson. Sack Julie Gardner. And I'll come back. So can you arrange that?

When Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of cult violent films Pusher and Drive, was announced as one of the creators of the BBC’s new version of The Famous Five, it left members of the Enid Blyton Society spluttering into their ginger beer.

Yes, the Danish film-maker is “reimagining” the adventures of Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog for a “progressive new audience”. True, he’s a Cannes award-winning auteur with a reputation for onscreen hyperviolence. Granted, he once declared “I’m a pornographer” in an interview for his Ryan Gosling vehicle Only God Forgives. But fans can rest assured that they’re set for something magical this Christmas.

...

Blyton’s 21 original books are used as the basis for the three new episodes – with elements added from myth and history. The Christmas special, The Curse of Kirrin Island, features a story based around the Knights Templar, lost treasure and an inscribed goblet. But there is also lots of humour, provided particularly by henchman Boswell and a nod to the Famous Five’s obsession with ginger beer. No word yet on whether lashings of it will be available as Famous Five merchandise.

...

But the three 90-minute specials also contain menace and mystery

...

The Famous Five: The Curse of Kirrin Island is on CBBC and iPlayer on 9 December and on BBC One on New Year’s Eve.

In the first of this four-part BBC series, David Attenborough shows us how ancient creatures have come to be preserved as fossils and how those fossils can shed light on characteristics of these creatures' lives, and even their death. He further demonstrates how scientists use a variety of ingenious methods to extract once living creatures and plants from their rocky tombs.

In it he goes to the Jurassic Coast and talks about his early experiences fossil hunting in Leicestershire.

One of the most famous events in English history will get its long-overdue adaptation in an upcoming series. The feud between William, Duke of Normandy (later William the Conqueror) and King Harold II is set to be portrayed in an upcoming eight-part drama series. The show is set to star Danish superstar Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) as William the Conqueror andJames Norton (Happy Valley) will claim his rightful heir to the throne as King Harold. The series will begin production in 2024, with the majority of filming taking place in Iceland. Michael Robert Johnson (Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes) will write the series and Baltasar Kormákur (Everest) will direct the piece.

...

In a press statement, Sue Deeks Head of BBC Programme Acquisition commented on the highly anticipated show in a press statement. ‘In the UK we learn about William the Conqueror, the Battle of Hastings and King Harold’s gruesome death in our school history lessons – but those headlines are all most of us can remember.’ She continued: ‘King and Conqueror will bring Harold and William to life, depicting their lives, loves and families, and the gripping, high stakes power game that led to their fateful meeting in 1066.’
