i'm a young woman. i've always had cats as a favorite animal. I even feel like i'd be soulmates with a cat, like they're my spirit animal. Maybe like a dæmon of some sort. i really want to be a "catgirl" and have some aspects of a cat. I start by, when I feel really cutesy, I tend to feel more like a playful kitten and I say "meow". I love cats. I know i'm not one, but i wanna be like one.

Mine is a bit more cerebral, my happiest memory is when my dad took me to take your kid to work day, it was a boring office job and I was bored, but the building was this huge glass pyramid, an absolute architectural delight. I was in the foyer sitting next to some giant leafy plants, I was sitting under one of the angled glass windows watching the rain fall down, it felt very cozy

I think that you are not allowed to speak freely on most platforms. And when i say speak freely i dont mean to have right to offend people, just to have right to normaly tell your opinion.

On Reddit, Subreddits have a "Modmail" feature that allows users to message all subreddit moderators at once, and moderators can respond collaboratively.

Should Lemmy consider potentially implement something similar, for Communities?

Even a basic version — like leveraging the already existing DM feature to have a Group DM that automatically includes all moderators and the user who sent the message — could help improve communication between users and community mod teams.

This could just use Lemmy's existing DM system but adapted for group messages tied to the mod team of a specific community.

Later on, if this proves to be successful, it could potentially be tweaked even further, and have support for Modchat, via the same Group DM as the potential Modmail.

When buying stuff, consuming media and picking jobs - where do you draw the line of considering something too evil? Among my peers there's a lot of people who will actively avoid Nestle products, or who don't eat meat. But none of them bats an eye at using Facebook or X. Nobody cares about using products made in China under awful working conditions. I have worked as a freelancer translating greenwashing for a few doubtful megacorporations, others work as lawyers or programmers supporting them.

Especially when it comes to work I find myself between a rock and a hard place. I have tried doing blue collar jobs instead to avoid this. My body tells me very clearly that it's not a full time option for me and I have been running into the same problems of having to consider working for people who either get their money from evil megacorporations or and/or having to do stuff that actively causes some kind of harm, and being forever poor while doing so.

Where do you draw the line? How do you live your life in such a way that it doesn't support evil directly or indirectly while being able to bring food to the table and pay the rent?

E.g. music, sculpture, novel

Avoid 'maybe' or 'it depends'. Take a stand!

I'm using Debian for YunoHost, but right now, it's not working, so I was looking for an alternative.

Since completing my education, I've noticed a decrease in mentally stimulating activities in my daily life. For this reason I've been experiencing a sense of cognitive decline, feeling like my mind isn't being challenged or engaged as much as it used to be. I'm looking for ways to stimulate my brain back. I'm interested in exploring activities that can help, such as reading, puzzles, games, and other intellectually stimulating stuff. Could you recommend some engaging and challenging options to help me get started? Thanks a lot

On Reddit, many subreddits have configurable requirements like minimum account age and karma before users are allowed to post or comment.

If a user doesn’t meet the criteria, they receive an automatic message like:

Your post/comment has been removed as your account does not meet the karma and/or age requirements of this sub.

Your account must be older than _____ days and have more than ________ combined karma to post here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.

Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Do you think Lemmy should consider adding similar options for community moderators — such as requiring a minimum amount of local or federated karma, and/or minimum account age — before a user can post or comment in a community?

Would this help reduce spam or low-effort posts, or would it go against the spirit of open discussion that Lemmy encourages?

Or can point me to a sub where I can get it identified?

It's specifically the jumbotron song of the linked video 8:36 to 11:12

It sounds vaguely like something like a Gary Glitter style anthem, but I've not been able to identify it with the tools I've used thus far.

I started to notice a intense automation and Artificial Intelligence Investments from companies and that made me wonder, what would happen or what should be done with the people who can't be trained for a new job and can't use his current skills to to get a job.

How would he live or what would he do in life? More importantly, what should be done with him to make him useful or at least neutral rather than being a negative on the society?

After reading this article, I started thinking about buying AR glasses. Could anyone share their experience with them? Also, does anyone here own AR glasses and wear contact lenses? I know it's possible to add prescription lenses to such glasses, but it would be inconvenient to remove my contacts every time I want to use AR glasses.

For those of you who travel in the united states, you'll know they now have facial recognition scans when checking your id. You can opt out by telling them you don't want to take the picture. I do every time, but I wonder what the point of the scan is if you can just opt out. That given, why do you think they do it? What prevents them from forcing you to do it?

To those of you who live outside of the united states, have you seen a similar increase in security at your airports?

Now I know a country is not the same as a city, but my country, the Netherlands, is small and densily populated, so maybe they're somewhat comparable?

I hear Mandami is considered from extreme-left to what he professes himself as democratic socialist, which to me would mean left-wing. I however keep pushing every US politician one or two positions to the right, but that's just vibes. So I would like to compare his stances to at least five political parties from my country, but where do I start?

Should I post an ask Lemmy on each topic how they compare to Mandami starting with housing? Because I would imagine the stances of each party on just one topic would already make quite a long post.

[edit]

I'll try and make several posts on this subject.

Title says it all

Like, do snakes even know youre their friend? From the people ive seen, they are still trying to kill you and wrap themselves around your neck, so why do people still keep them and talk to them as pets?

My guinea pig still sometimes runs away from me, but she at least likes me and and my voice and just stops eating if I dont speak to her every day to the point that I needed to force feed her nutrient slop, she lets me cuddle her, etc

And snakes are just like: I will kill you the second I see you
