I am always being logged out of kbin on desktop and mobile PWA.

On desktop, using firefox, if I stop using the site for 10-20 minutes, even if the active tab is open with it, I am logged out. Is this normal expected behavior or might I have some setting or addon which is creating this?

I have given kbin an exception to the rule of purging cookies between sessions in case somehow that was the issue. No change.

Never encountered this before.

Anyone else with same issue? Or no?

All the videos on m/videos appear to be YouTube links. Are we not able to directly upload MP3s yet?

I want to have a main view that is exclusively magazines/lemmy communities I'm subscribed to. Is this possible? I've been fumbling around the UI and haven't been able to discover it yet if it does exist.

How can I make a post that winds up in "threads" instead of "microblog"?

I posted a photo on kbin yesterday from my photo hosting service. I thought the image would hot link from my gallery so I wouldn't be using bandwidth from the kbin.social server. But it looks like the image gets picked up and hosted on the kbin server anyway.

Is there any way to hotlink from an outside host where the image will display in the post? If not, are there some general guidelines about image file size?

Alright I really thought I had cracked this nut, but some of these are still eluding me. I went on a run of subscribing to a bunch of remote communities and felt like I had really mastered the fediverse in theory and in execution... then I was humbled.

I'm guessing that the remote communities I've already subscribed to went very smoothly because somebody on kbin already did the hard work of finding them and subscribing, and I was unknowingly riding on their coattails.

The small community I'm trying to join is lemmy.world/c/pennsylvania. So far I've tried:

  1. Pointing my browser to kbin.social/m/[email protected]

    • 404
    • I assume this is because kbin is so far, unaware of this community
  2. Pointing my browser to kbin.social/c/[email protected]

    • I was pretty sure this wouldn't work, but I've been wrong about things I was pretty sure about, before.
  3. Pointing my browser to kbin.social/c/[email protected]

    • I recently learned that kbin is unintentionally picky about capitalization in some cases. When I learned this, I REALLY thought I found the answer to my problem.
  4. Click the magnifying glass, search for https://lemmy.world/c/pennsylvania

  5. Click the magnifying class, search for https://lemmy.world/c/Pennsylvania

  6. Click the magnifying glass, search for [email protected]

    • I really thought this would work because I thought the ! is how you tell your instance to seriously go out and get something, even if it has never heard of it before. (is that just for lemmy?)
  7. Click the magnifying glass, search for [email protected]

I am defeated.

Is there a setting that stops me from seeing threads that I've already seen and/or interacted with?

On Lemmy I can unselect, "Show read posts". Am I missing something similar on Kbin?

Thanks!

For the life of me I can't figure this out. I want to quickly jump to a magazine (or now a series of magazines from different instances) that I am subscribed to I was expecting to see something like "my subscriptions" or "my magazines" or similar but must be blind because I don't see this in an easy place.

The only way I know how to do this at the moment is use the search magazines function and type in the name of the magazine I'm interested in.

Maybe I can do this from a profile or settings screen but I want to be able to see this with a single click from any screen. I mainly use the PWA so perhaps this works more intuitively on desktop? I know this isn't going to be a 1:1 clone of Reddit but in both Reddit and the Android Reddit Is Fun app I can see my subscribed subs from a menu that is available anywhere with one click (or a swipe).

New to kbin. I’m trying to wrap my head around how federation works. If a community develops on a different server/instance than where I created my account, can I create threads and reply to others? Or just view? I read everywhere that federation allows following across different instances, but viewing content is different than participating in a community. If my account is on kbin.social can I create a thread or reply in a thread for a magazine that is in fedia.io?
