Now you're stuck with the week long wait between SNW episodes! I honestly don't mind it that much with shows like this, it gives each episode more time to breathe.

I wonder if you maybe knew Hegemony was a cliffhanger and decided not to watch it? I've heard of people doing that before.

Oh definitely, the way they did it looked too unnatural!

I had noticed that all of the women on the bridge with longer hair (Una, Uhura, and La'an) had more contained hairstyles this episode, and I'm wondering if it was because of the zero g scene. With the amount of wirework they did for that scene, it wouldn't surprise me if they were just trying to cut out the extra effort of rigging hair so it floated like they did for the Subspace Rhapsody scene.

Well that's too bad!

I enjoyed it enough to buy the soundtrack on vinyl! 😂 It was a lot of fun. I still find myself getting a few of the songs stuck in my head, even when I haven't watched it in a while. It does seem to be a pretty divisive episode though.

I also thought Wedding Bell Blues was a bit mediocre. I was wavering between 6 & 6.5/10 for a rating, and I did end up going 6.5 because of the final scene.

Fortunately I did like episode 3 better! I thought M'Benga was very good in it, and even though the zombies felt like teetering on the edge of a step too far, they fit them into the story fairly well. I'm planning on doing a short writeup of my thoughts on it in the episode discussion thread once I have time to think it over and maybe watch the episode or sections of it again.

Here’s a place to discuss the recent Strange New Worlds episode. Spoiler warning of course!

I watched the first two episodes of SNW season 3, and also a few more Voyager episodes. I'm looking forward to watching the next episode! I'm not usually a fan of zombie movies/shows, but I'm not usually a fan of musicals and I really enjoyed Subspace Rhapsody! So we'll find out soon.

I dug my sim racing gear back out recently and have been putting in quite a few hours into the rallycross mode on Dirt Rally 2.0! I'm currently trying to tell myself that I normally only do this for a month or two a year, and that I don't need to buy a sim cockpit to do it with! 😂 Although I could use it for American and Euro Truck Simulator, so maybe worth it.

Yeah, time travel and similar is something that is hard to do well. It usually opens a lot of plot holes and requires a major suspension of disbelief to work!

I'm afraid I don't have a recommendation on which show to go to next though, I've never finished Discovery and Picard either.

That would have been fun! I didn't know about the de Lancie cameo, but I had seen the season teaser trailer and from the outfit and appearance immediately suspected it was Trelane.

First of all, it's great to have the show back! I definitely missed it.

  • Hegemony Part 2 (8/10) I think the two parts of this episode could have been expanded a bit and turned into a pretty decent movie. It seems it's hard to do a good follow-up to a season cliffhanger, but I think they did fairly good. The ending felt a bit rushed, and I was hoping for a truce or something instead, but I did like that they went the Trek route of science to temporarily solve the problem. I'm curious to see if they bring the Gorn back in the future. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them, but I don't want to see them being the SNW version of the Borg!

The scenes on board the Gorn ship were a highlight for me, and I think they could have done a whole episode or at least a longer section there. They did a good job with the tension and atmosphere. It was nice to see La'an be able to work through some of her trauma and see that carried through to the next episode. I didn't really like how easily they were able to recognize and grab all the information about the other captives though. It felt too much like the hand wavey hacker scenes in movies, clear down to a comment about the mainframe! It was really jarring, especially since they normally use main computer or central computer.

Back on board Enterprise there were more good scenes. It's nice to have Pike getting more to do again. The scene with April was good, as were the rest of his scenes. Having Chapel and Spock working in sickbay was a good choice. The relationship situation was resolved pretty concisely and they got down to business. Seeing Scotty and Pelia working together is enjoyable, I'm hoping we'll be seeing a lot of them in the upcoming episodes!

  • Wedding Bell Blues (6.5/10)

First of all, a big thumbs up for the costuming and styling in this one. Lots of unique looks for sure. And Scotty in a kilt! I got a chuckle out of the Twilight Zone reference too.

I wouldn't mind getting a more serious Spock episode sometime! I know he gets some character development, but it seems a lot of it is in comic relief episodes. His wedding speech was a really good moment though. Just give us a Spock focused episode where we can learn more about him while he's doing research or something!

I'm enjoying seeing the development La'an (one of my favorite SNW characters) is getting. Now that she seems to have gotten past her focus on the Gorn it'll be interesting to see what will keep her going. The scenes with Spock were good, and I hope they keep them as just friends.

I'm really hoping the teasers with Ortegas finally turn into some character development for her! I'm a little disappointed that they're just going the trauma route again after M'Benga, Pike, Uhura, and La'an, but I'm happy that we might get something finally.

All in all it was a fairly entertaining episode. The John de Lancie cameo was fun, and is sure to inspire many debates! The episode just felt a little bit more like a slow roller down the base line rather than a solid hit. I might think differently in later rewatches!

That's the way I normally try to do it too. It's been a lot of fun since Strange New Worlds began, as it was the first time since I had been a fan that there was a Trek show airing that I enjoyed!

Yeah, I thought they could have done something similar without using the PADD, but the episodes were at least pretty entertaining!

  • F/8 30.0mm 1/100s ISO-1000 15 frames

I'm still figuring out how to best do this, but I'm amazed at the pictures I can get! This is the JPEG straight from the camera, so no editing other than the stacking and tweaks the camera does. I almost exclusively use natural light, but I'm probably going to need to grab something for this type of thing.

Lots of fun, and if my neighbors didn't think I was crazy before, I'm sure they do now! 😂
