With the IOC it is very much endemic. There is no way to improve the olympic games without snatching them from their corrupt hands first. However which countries would take care of the games, without just putting their own political messaging in? The Games always have been a means of politics.

Nachtrag: Es stimmt nicht, dass in Deutschland nicht darüber gesprochen werden würde. z.B. gibt es in Berlin seit knapp einem Jahrzehnt eine Initiative, die einen Teil der Spree als Flussbad hergerichtet haben will. Das Problem dabei ist, dass die Investitionskosten bei ca. 10 Milliarden Euro liegen, um die Kanalisation um das Flussbad so zu verändern, dass es halbwegs sinnvoll betrieben werden könnte.
So oder so müssen die städtischen Kanalisationssysteme massiv modernisiert werden, um mit dem Klimawandel mit langen Dürreperioden und heftigen Starkregen klarzukommen. Deutschlandweit sprechen wir hier auch über Investitionen im hohem zweistelligem bis niedrigem dreistelligen Milliardenbereich.
Es gibt im wesentlichen zwei Arten von Kanalisationsystemen. Mischsysteme, in denen Regen mit in die Schmutzwasserkanalisation fließt und von dort aus aufs Klärwerk, und Trennsysteme, wo Regen und Schmutzwasser getrennt sind. In Trennsystemen wird das Regenwasser regelmäßig nicht auf normale Klärwerke geleitet, sondern in eigenen Kläranlagen (die deutlich einfacher sind) vom Straßendreck gereinigt.
Alle alten Systeme (bis ca. 1950er Jahre) in Europa sind Mischsysteme. Diese haben "Notauslässe".. Bevor das Gemisch aus Regen und Schmutzwasser überläuft, läuft es da ungereinigt ab, i.d.R. in den nächsten Fluss, in Paris also die Seine. Auf dem Klärwerk landet dieses Mischwasser nie.
Es gibt aber auch die Situation, dass auf dem Klärwerk so viel Wasser ankommt, dass es nicht mehr auf die übliche Reinigungsrate gereinigt werden kann. Dafür ist der wesentliche Punkt die Verweilzeit in der Anlage. Fließt mehr Wasser, fließt es schneller und weniger Stoffe können sedimentieren bzw. von den Mikroorganismen abgebaut werden.
Das zu unterscheiden ist wichtig, weil die beiden Effekte unterschiedliche Lösungen brauchen. Es bringt nichts, die Kapazität auf dem Klärwerk auszubauen, wenn das Mischwasser schon in der Stadt überläuft, weil die Leitungen und Pumpen das garnicht transportieren können. Und das nachzurüsten ist richtig richtig teuer und setzt voraus, die gesamten Straßen nach und nach aufzureißen, neue Kanäle zu legen, neue Pumpwerke, Regenrückhaltebecken und und und zu bauen.
In aller Regel ist der Umbau der Kanalisation der Knackpunkt und nicht der Ausbau der Klärwerkskapazitäten, da die Klärwerke meist so geplant wurden, dass man noch Ausbauflächen hat.
Es muss bedacht werden, dass sowohl die Kanalisation, als auch Klärwerke in Unterlast ungünstig sind, weil die Kanalisation dann leichter verstopft und zu Geruchsbildung neigt und auf den Klärwerken, weil dann der Ressourceneinsatz ineffizient ist, und die Reinigungsleistung im Regelbetrieb leidet.
Die einzige zuverlässige Lösung ist das Ersetzen der Misch- durch Trennsysteme. Das sind in ihrer Gesamtheit Sanierungsmaßnahmen, die für eine Großstadt wie Paris in den dutzenden Milliarden liegen dürften, und auch bei Fokussierung Dekadenprojekte sind.

If you think your dad was sent to fight against the Nazis for ideological opposition, i have bad news for you. Maybe he personally fought out of that motivation, but must countries at the time were either fascist themselves or on the edge to fascism.

What is different though is that after WW2 it was understood which social problems, in particular fucking over the lower and middle class, create the breeding ground for fascism to be successful. Since the 1980s with Thatcher and Reagan and then the neoliberal wave over Europe, we had 40 years of deliberately empowering fascism. Now they reap what they sew.

Israel has every ability to prosecute its own citizens living inside its own borders. It is not undermined by the ICC arrest warrant. Switching offender and victim of course is a typical Israeli propaganda strategy. The ICC acts because Israel chooses not to act. And the ICC does not appease anyone, as can been seen with the vile attacks now being thrown at it by the US and other Israeli allies. Also the Mossad was harassing ICC members for close to a decade now to prevent them for prosecuting Israeli war crimes.
I think you misunderstand rich people. Why do you think they make PACs? Why do you think they make Ivy Leagues and send their kids there? Why do you think they keep up all these illusions. Do you think they are too stupid to realize that you can get an equivalent education for a fraction of that money?
From what a Greek friend told me, the Greek far right government tries to spin up support for Zionism, but the country remains deeply against Zionism across the entire political spectrum.
I am worried that they will try to combine it with anti-immigrant sentiments and with heating up tensions with Turkey. If Israel manages to drag in more countries in its goal to create a war with Lebanon and Iran, we could see things spiral into another global war.
