He grabbed it and called the police. “See, that’s another thing I hate myself for,” he said. If he had just gotten another gun, he could have killed the intruder there and then.
He instead speculated about political forces that might have it in for him and his family. He talked about hired assassins and past C.I.A. experiments with brainwashing, and suggested that a violent attack on the home of a Second Amendment champion like himself had all the signs of an operation to justify more gun control. “I just think that I was chosen to be a false flag,” he said. This made a lot more sense to him than murdering a family to get to their bunker. Still, he could not shake the thought that his decision to enter politics had been his fatal error. If he had kept out of public life, neither his politics nor his bunker would have been so widely known.
Eh, they've always used whatever was around and convenient to reinforce or spread their delusions. There's plenty to cherry-pick out of science to backup basically whatever you want, so long as you ignore the rest of science that doesn't fit your narrative or is even just less convenient. Their (mis)use of scientific terms and phrasing isn't new, and if anything needs to be criticized more than the straight-up batshit antiscience imo.

It's not that I don't believe you, but I always thought (perhaps mistakenly) that Che was known for being highly educated in ML theory and literally wrote the (or at least a) book on guerrilla tactics. Obviously he made some massive and ultimately fatal mistakes in Bolivia, but I thought that was more because he misunderstood the political situation (the material circumstances) there. Like, he was wrong about how things were and what was going on in Bolivia at that moment, but that it wasn't a failure in his understanding of theory or tactics so much as their misapplication to the specific circumstances. Is that incorrect? Am I just splitting hairs?
Yeah, that makes sense. If the megas don't interest you and you're used to them being the only things pinned, then you're likely to ignore pinned posts in general. That probably is the case for a good chunk of users. But if someone is used to ignoring pins in general, it seems to me that they probably shouldn't be too surprised when they miss something like this.
I'm not being critical of you here, but I've seen a few people now mention they didn't know any of this was going on. I sometimes miss big struggle sessions and wonder how in the hell that happened, me being the modlog-reading extremely online dork that I am, so I get it. But in this case, there has been a voting thread pinned for over 2 days on the topic. Do people just not look at the pinned posts?

When hexbear gets cut off from other instances, it makes it all the less likely that well-meaning radlibs will have a chance to see good, genuine leftist takes, which does influence them (as many have outright said.) Dbzer0 serves as part of the pipeline from radlib to actual anarchism and/or communism. Defederating effectively caps the pipe at radlib and we shouldn't do that unless absolutely necessary to protect BIPOC/trans/neurodivergent/etc. users here. And I think it's safe to say dbzer0 as an instance is far from being a danger in that way.

Counterpoint: Newsmega. The news megathread is one of my favorite parts of this site and it is very active even on "slow" news days. Obviously it's not a 1:1 comparison, but I think it illustrates pretty well that posting to a megathread is not at all a guarantee to exponentially reduces views and interaction. In fact, commenting to a megathread takes less effort than making a regular post, and that slight increase in the ease of making a contribution might make it more likely that people here will take the time to share some fool they happened to see somewhere else.
Same goes for me. There have been months-old replies that I only happened to see when looking through past threads I posted in. A couple times I felt really guilty because it was something I would have responded to, and then was like "should I reply now and come across as a total weirdo by responding months later, or just let the person think I'm an ass for not answering their question?"
Either way, I am haunted by it.
