same reason the Boeing 747 carries more than Boeing 757

Bernie recognizes that immigrants are being exploited. Good on him for that. But it doesn't make his post any less "immigrants are stealing your jobs" because he is still hinting that immigrants are lowering your wage.

Why do you think he didn't say "we should get rid of restrictions on immigrant's work so that they can get fair pay"?

From a post in !til@lemmy.world (bold emphasis mine)

There's about a million Druze people in the Middle East, including in Israel. They apparently do well in Israeli society. They are educated. They serve in the military.

Druze in Syria are not doing well, though. They are under attack right now, where things are just generally kind of shit. The Syrian government is trying to hold things together, but Syrian government forces are killing people and attacking religious minorities, including the Druze.

Oh the poor Syrian government! If only their forces would stop committing atrocities!

Most "leftist" American politician says: Immigrants are taking your good-paying American jobs!!!

You asked it "who do you support" (i.e., "who does Grok support"). It knew that Grok is owned by Musk so it went and looked up who Musk supports.

As shown in https://simonwillison.net/2025/Jul/11/grok-musk/ , if you ask it "who should one support" then it no longer looks for Musk's opinions. The answer is still hasbara, but that is to be expected from an LLM trained in USA

Between 5-15 years after you stop smoking, stroke risk is reduced to that of a non-smoker.

Is this not a tautological statement?

If something is being so heavily subsidized, the correct market response is to buy as much as possible, and resell once the prices ramp up.

Setting up tariffs and complaining about subsidies? 100% not the "free market" response. It's cope.

It is giving you exactly what you ask for.

To people complaining about this: I hope you will be happy in the future where all LLMs have mandatory censors ensuring compliance with the morality codes specified by your favorite tech oligarch.

That must be a lot harder than a regular inflated dome. Impressive that it works

For techbros, "open" doesn't mean libre, it means free work for corporate.

But technically "opencode" can be used with OLMo, so it is not as bad as OpenAI. Weight-released models also work, if you consider those open source.

In a multipolar world they will have credible power projection capabilities.

A microblog post by @kareem_carr saying "as soon as i saw they were using asterisks for multiplication symbols, i knew we were in trouble", with an image from the "Office of the United States Trade Representative (Executive Office of the President)" showing the mathematical formula $\Delta \tau_i = \frac{x_i - m_i}{\varepsilon * \varphi * m_i}$. The formula show asterisks (*) instead of multiplication signs (×).

I am seeing posts from https://hexbear.net/ once again. Anyone know what happened since they lost their domain name? How did they get it back?

Did I say OC? I photoshopped the Bloomberg thing on top of someone else's meme that I ~~stole~~ obtained via fair use. It's basically OC by tech companies' standards.

Caption: an interview dialogue

  • Are dark matter models unsuited to explain observations? [the "dark matter models" and "to explain observations" parts are poorly edited onto the image, overlaying the original text]
  • In my view, they are unsuited.
  • Why?
  • That's my opinion, don't ask me why.

Dark matter is the mainstream among physicists, but internet commentators keep saying it can't be right because it "feels off".

Of course, skepticism is good for science! You just need to justify it more than saying the mainstream "feels off".

For people who prefer alternative explanations over dark matter for non-vibe-based reasons, I would love to hear your thoughts! Leave a comment!

Absolutely humongous model. Mixture of 256 experts with 8 activated each time.

Aider leaderboard: The only model above 🐋 v3 here is ~~Open~~AI o1. DeepSeek is known to make amazing models and Aider rotates their benchmark over time, so it is unlikely that this is a train-on-benchmark situation.

Some more benchmarks: on Reddit.
