Be wary folks. A queen ant was discovered in Melbourne on a freight pallet from Queensland according to this article.

Big yikes. This is the stuff in oz that is actually concerning. Much more so than sharks and snakes.

@plumbercraic @Thornburywitch there are already native Jack Jumpers that put people in hospital, adding these would be horrific.

I thought we only had bull ants, and these were bad enough. Jack jumpers are more Tassie????? I agree that we really really really don't need to add fire ants to the mix.

@Thornburywitch yup they are in the Yarra Valley and assumedly other rural places too. Nasty.

Time to mass produce AI based ant exterminator robots?

Faaark!

I thought they were only just making their way I to northern NSW from QLD. This is super bad news.

We can kiss hanging out at Yarra bend, Albert Park or any of the other amazing parks around the place if they make it here. 😭

Yeah... ABC chose the scariest possible pictures for the fire ant stings.

They're painful but those are definitely people who have bad reactions.

Unfortunately fire ants are in so many places around the world now.

I hope Australia will be able to control the spread but it's really hard to do.
