what is going on here?
well i am new to this whole fediverse/kbin/decentralized social media stuff but i am veeeery very interested at what all this is.

well its very complicated to "get the hang of" so can somebody please explain how all of this works? i im overwhelmed

Put simply, this is like reddit, you have several subtopics you can receive updates from. What does it make different from reddit? Its federate, decentralized. Everyone can host lemmy, each lemmy instance will sync with others and you are able to read all subtopics from every lemmy instance. its a bit like email.
