I am interested on rooting my old snapdragon galaxy s8 (which requires extra steps). I want to get up to the latest stable OS. My question is what features will i gain if I upgrade my phone. Also will I lose dex functionality. I also know that Dex isnt capable of doing widgets yet. let me know :)

I have a S23 Ultra and noticed the resolution is only FHD when connected via USB to PC. Do I need a USB to HDMI cable and connect it directly to my monitor to get the max resolution options?

Hey all,

I am attempting to operate an application that requires consistent network connectivity while transitioning from LTE to a docked state, utilizing an in-vehicle LTE modem. Currently, the application functions seamlessly in both environments; however, it unexpectedly terminates during the transition phase from mobile to dock. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or employed a persistent application to bridge this gap?

Most of the latest Samsung Devices at the top end have either 12GB of RAM (Smartphones and the Tab S9+) or 16GB in the Tab S9 Ultra.

Do you think there's a scenario where the extra 4GB would really be noticed on Android? or is more of a potential longevity thing?

My employer is a Google Suite business hence I use Google Meet several times per day.

I have a Samsung TabS8 and the performance on Dex is great except for this 1 issue. I cannot see how to fix it???

Google Meet seems to lock out or use Gmail infrastructure during video calls. The CPU usage is high and causes overheating. Google Meet gets shutdown.

My workaround is to disconnect the external monitor. All good. No overheating but of course I lose the 2nd screen.

Any options re: how to configure the setup to avoid disconnection to second screen.

The second screen is connected via a PD hub

Hi guys.

I've been using DeX on a S20 as my daily work setup (3 days a week, at least), and happy with it.

Would be more if my monitor connection wasn't randomly disconnecting, sometimes for a couple of seconds, other times until I disconnect either the hub cable (I'm connecting HDMI via a small hub with HDMI + 2 USBs) to the phone or the hub power cable.

Now, I know this usually is due to power issues, but in this case I don't find it's the case. I'm using my work laptop PSU (yeah... the one which is collecting dust under the S20 because DeX is just simpler and better for a split-work environment ;-) ), which is no shy of power, and works perfectly with the laptop itself, and I have tried using another simpler and weaker PSU (but adequate to powering the S20 with this stuff). Both keyboard and mouse are connected by bluetooth, so they don't draw power.

I've been experiencing this behaviour more and more, increasing a bit over time, but with no discernable pattern. I thought it might be related with the couple latest firmwares, but I doubt it.

So before pointing the finger to the hub (which is my guess) I wanted to ask you guys if anyone is also feeling this increase or if this is happening to you too.

If this proves to be the hub I'll have to order another one... grumph... but this time I'll order one with an ethernet port and maybe an extra USB-C one. Been missing that.

Thanks in advance

I am having an issue with not being able to open different windows with any of the available browsers. On any computer it will auto pop-up new windows but it only adds tabs to the current browser on my tablet. Is there a solution? Work is near impossible to get done this way.

Thank you for any and all help.

I travel a lot, and a lapdock is a perfect compagnon. So far I use something I got four years ago off of AliExpress (it was a 'test' to see if it would be sufficient), but now I'm ready to upgrade to a Nexdock wireless. Problem is that they do ship to the EU, but that 'taxes and import duties are not included'. This would add over 50% to the price :-( (also taking into account the 'administrative fees' of the courier). I also need a EU-VAT invoice, so I can declare it as a business expense.

So: Does anybody have a suggestion what the best way is to buy a ND Wireless as a European business?

I wasn't sure what else to title this, but this is a small recap on my experience daily driving Samsung Dex. To make a long story short, I have enjoyed it a ton, and don't forsee myself going back, but there are some things I would change. Although, my use case may be different than yours, so please bear that in mind.

The best thing about Dex -- to me -- is that my smartphone (Fold 4) is the brains of all my computing needs. I play games on mobile (CoD, LoL, and newly, War Thunder) with the fold open. I use it docked maybe a few times a week -- mainly for writing and work, as well as some video consumption and coding. The fold 4 has everything I need. Quick social media or message? Using the fold closed quickly. Games or reading? Folded open. Need work done? Dex. But it's all from the brains of my phone -- and I prefer a one stop solution like that.

There is one major flaw (beyond the obvious scaling issues and big screen adaptation, and app support issues everyone knows about) and that is that when I use my keyboard, the screen stays on. Doesn't seem like a big deal -- but for someone who uses Dex for writing, even my wireless charger (which I do enjoy) wont keep up with the battery drain. The screen staying on while I am typing just drains the battery even more. Of course, this isn't the end of the world, since I don't use Dex all day every day, but if I did, I know that even with this 10W wireless charger, it would be unsustainable. If there were just simply a way to keep the screen off even while typing, I think that would save a lot of battery -- since I have tested it with writing, and video consumption, and funny enough, the battery life is less when I am writing than when streaming vido.

All in all, I still prefer Dex to my laptop -- which is a gaming laptop. I prefer sitting on the couch with a background show going for games and only play a round or 2 at a time for games. I think I will be selling my HP Omen laptop because I really just don't play games the way I used to and honestly prefer using Dex. So with that said, the good stuff.

Dex has been great. No, really. I don't use desktop a whole ton, but about 3-4 times a week. I use desktop to write, and lesson planning (I am an educator) as well as light video consumption and light coding. Gaming is designated for tablet mode on my fold, as I have mentioned. I really do feel like Dex-like features are the future of the PC market. Tell me -- what personal computer (PC) is more 'personal' than ones' smartphone? If you ask me, which, I know you're not -- but still -- the foldable space with Dex-like features and integration is really the next iteration.

If i wanted to use my windows 11 laptop with dex running wirelessly from my tab s7, how can i get the laptop's touchpad to interact with dex? Connecting a mouse straight to the tab makes the input very laggy.

The keyboard works with dex, but the touchpad doesn't. Thanks.

Today I learnt about the DeX Pad & the DeX Station, both of which I was blissfully unaware before.

I dare say, back when they were made they were pretty awesome, the specs now are a bit dated though, USB 2.0 and the like.

Is there a Nex Dex Gen type thing, perhaps with wireless charging and the ports but USB 3.0 or that kind of thing ?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a new galaxy phone. I plan to use it to replace my laptop as well (meaning the phone will be the only conputing device I'll own). Do I need one with 16gb ram, or is it an overkill?

So i have a windows PC but i use dex for everything except one single task. Once a month i have to use ADOBE for a specific form that can only be read on windows or mac according to the document when i try to open it. So im wondering if there is a free app i can use to remote into my laptop so i dont have to lug it out for that once a month project. If there is a premium experience to be had im willing to put some money down on this.

Hi guys,

I've been taken by this idea of a fanless lightweight experience and since I don't game anymore I thought it might be a good idea to sell my aging 1650 equipped laptop to purchase some of the peripherals required for this venture.

Hoping some more experienced people might kindly give me some purchase advice in light of the preferences below, or tell me whether I'll more likely find what I want in a galaxy tab ultra. I'm not doing anything heavy. Just watching movies and light web and document work.

Screen at least 14-18in. 4k60. OLED is just a nice to have for me.

Integrated/detachable keyboard and enough ports for at least a mouse, or a REALLY REALLY good track pad could persuade me to go mouseless.

If the keyboard is integrated, the dock needs to have the ability to go into a tent-like orientation for content consumption.

I would like a floating phone setup / wireless charging

Fully wireless setup would be nice but not if it introduces a bucket load of lag.

Don't need touch screen or a particularly strong battery.

Nice integrated speakers if possible.

Any other peripherals I should consider?

I would also appreciate general advice. Maybe what you would have told yourself on day one. I am keen to give this tech a try.

Thanks for reading, hope you guys can help me!

So basically unsure if this is more smart things dex or if I cant do it or possibly an app option not a phone option?

I have samsung s23 ultra and have dex as well as a samsung smart TV q80 that has it as well , I'm trying to play N64 emulators on my TV which I can , but I have this n64 USB controller that is connected to the TV and it works with it but when I use dex or smart things I'm only able to control using the phones touch screen.

When hooked up to an hdmi ,dex starts on the tablet and mirrorˋs to the monitor at steched resolution. Having trouble for it to run dex seperatly from the tablet like the phones.

The "start when hdmi connected" setting is on, turning off and on dex from the drag down menu does not help. Cant find any other helpful settings and our setup is compatible with our s20 and s21 phones .

thanks

What hub are you using with your S9 that allows for 4k (UHD) with Dex? I have an external monitor that supports 4k, and i get that when i connect the usb-c- to usb-c connection. But the monitor also has mini-hdmi as well. I''d like a hub that can take usb-c for charing and hdmi for the monitor.

Thanks
