As per title, I'd like to know if there are any third party apps worth it still?

I'd ideally like a web app that scrapes the shit out of Reddit causing more harm than good. Anything like that available? (Even if it's a website that scrapes I'll be happy)

Reddit had an outage a few months back and had an awesome write up about their troubleshooting and reengineering of their k8s set up. Does anyone have a link to that? I can't for the life of me find it.

This might be the dumbest shit I've ever said, but seems like a valid way to solve the bot problem? Definitely no existing coin or anything like that, but I feel like place is one of those things where if you could solve the logistical problems, it could easily become a staple of the internet with a long rich lore.

As you might know by now, I'm a story faker on Reddit, or I was. I haven't even opened Reddit in days and I'm detoxing.

However, I wonder what are your opinions on fake Reddit stories. Some people seem to take them very seriously, but I don't know what a bigger amount of people think about it. Do you care? You don't care? You find them entertaining? Or it makes you upset when you discover a story is fake?

What if you realized a story that deals in heavy topics turns out to be fake? Something that real people might have real trauma about?

I'm kinda beating myself for making so many fake stories and I'm overthinking a lot about what people really think about it, maybe I'm making it a bigger deal in my head than what it really is.

For the first time ever, when i screenshotted it said “Wait! Don’t screenshot! this post looks better when you share it.” I’ve screenshotted plenty before and never seen this. Are they really that desperate for interaction?

I can't believe how pro-reddit sentiment is. It's like a totally different reality.

I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence, but I raised a case with the ICO in the UK, and today they got back to me asking for all my communication with Reddit. Also today - after a month of silence - Reddit also emailed me with this

If you’re in the UK and had been affected by posts being restored, I’d recommend contacting the ICO. It takes less than 5 minutes

There's a QR code on r/place that links here and it seems some of the pixels are suddenly changing without any users attached to those changes -- unlike everywhere else

was a 5 year redditor before bailing last month but never paid attention to r/place until now (fascinating!)

can someone familiar with the inner workings of it please explain to me how it logistically works?

like how do they coordinate creating the flags, logos -- most importantly the "fuck spez" messages'.

i believe i read a user can only change one pixel every so often? if true, how is it determined who puts something down, who goes next ...etc.

any light anyone can shed on this would be much appreciated!

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/1795192

Take this screenshot for example. This is the front page of Lemmy right now. Virtually every post will make the reader feel bad and depressed. It’s all doombait, ragebait - and if it’s a meme, it is usually a meme that leaves an annoyed taste in your mouth at someone or something.

This is what drove me and many others away from Reddit, and a decentralized platform does not have to have this problem in theory - but it Is currently experiencing it now. Reddit has no reason to change their depressing content because it drives much engagement and creates revenue. But, for a decentralized platform to just be filled with ragebait and doombait is not good and exposes inherent problems with the platform right now.

What’s more is that most of these posts are posted by accounts created in the past month, leading me to believe that people from Reddit who are used to getting karma dopamine from getting people riled up are just doing the same thing here.

I don’t really know how Lemmy can fix this problem - it is something that we really need to be aware of as a community. Don’t just upvote something because it makes you annoyed and you want more people to see it - perhaps we need to downvote ragebait and doombait when we see it so that the platform doesn’t become a depressing echo chamber.

I took part in the Reddit blackout a month ago, and accessed Reddit through Apollo. After the blackout I looked at Reddit a handful of times and then let my association with Reddit die with Apollo.

I haven’t been there since, but now I feel as though I should have deleted my account of 7 years, that way everything I ever contributed will be gone.

However, to accomplish this as you all know I should delete all my posts first and edit all comments. I was wondering what people used to do this. I want everything to read “Edit: moved to Lemmy”.

I’m sure others migrating here have the same question. Thanks.

Totally not suspicious timing at all.

Also if you're willing to visit reddit, the comments under the post are great. They're not fooling anyone.
