A couple of years ago I lived in my grandparents summer cabin (for complex reasons involving bankruptcy) up in the rural parts of West Maine. This was back in around 2022, since covid lockdown was being relaxed in some places.

I was on a hiking trail in a kinda seculed area of the forest, left to become overgrown as not many used it due to weather recently. I brought my own backpack with food, emergency supplies such as medkit flare. I'm a careful hiker as everyone should be. And then when I was beginning to get to evening I saw a weird light

I assumed it was just another person of course, because why wouldn't I just assume its someone's torch. But I noticed the light seemed to be following me behind, not even bouncing up and down like a torch beam would (used by someone walking). Instead the light was floating steady and smooth.

When I started to get scared I stopped and had to force myself to turn around to face whatever it was. There I saw what I at first thought was a firefly. It stopped there hovering in front of me. For some reason I was frozen still, couldn't move from the sense of fear, like an aura of fear was around me

The thing floated closer to me, like investigating me and interested. I swear it had the shape of a mini humanoid, but glowing yellow. It had wings going so fast like a bee, but the body of a tiny person. I couldn't see it's eyes because the glow was too intense I couldn't barely look at it because it's so unnatural and flight or flight inducing. Anyway it flew away. I've never seen anything like it before or since and I'm just wondering if anyone had seen something like this in the Maine area or surrounding states.

This is my first reddit post, so please bare with me as I try to tell this story. For context, this all happened to me and my friend in late October of 2024. One day, me and her decide to take a late night spontaneous trip to some local hot springs in the mountains.

The whole hike there and back went pretty smoothly, and there was nothing eventful other than some odd people we met there. But everything changed as we got to the parking lot- this is where things happen that I cannot explain, and to this day I still don't know.

As we were finishing our hike, we can now see the parking lot and are about 1/4 mile away from it. I'm telling my friend a story of mine as we are walking towards the parking lot. Then, suddenly out of absolutely nowhere, this unexplainable, unnatural, tremendously overwhelming sensation of absolute fear, and pure absolute evil completely enveloped me in every way possible, as if walking through some sort of invisible wall into the territory of something paranormal and evil that we were not welcome to. It took over my entire mind, soul, body, everything. It was as if my entire being was screaming "get out, now. You're in danger". Nothing could adequately describe the unimaginable magnitude of evil I felt then. I knew at that exact moment that we needed to leave immediately otherwise something horrendous was going to happen. I didn't want to worry my friend or cause panic, so after a moment of silence when this evil completely enveloped me, I tried to continue talking about my story as we got closer to the car, but ultimately I just started to hasten my walk as I was cautiously looking at my surroundings in the dark, but saw nothing.

As we got closer to the car, I realized that my friend has grown silent, she then turns to me and said "things just started feeling really weird."

When I realized we both were feeling the same thing without having mentioned it, I knew that something was seriously wrong. I said "get to the car" as we started running. As I entered the gravel parking lot, I could now see that there was a single car with closed curtains, the windows looked foggy, indicating that someone was likely inside.

We got in and locked the doors immediately and I asked "do you feel that too?" And she told me "yes, we need to leave right now". Without skipping a beat, I turned on my car and floored it out. After exiting the canyon, we felt safe and began talking about what we felt. There's nothing else we could describe it as besides something absolutely pure evil and unnatural and paranormal. I saw nothing, heard nothing, but felt as if Satan himself was preparing an attempt on my life.

For months I would check the news to see if there was anything that happened at the Hot springs, but nothing ever came up.

I will never forget what I felt like seemingly walking through a visible wall of some absolutely pure evil beings domain. It felt as if it knew my presence was there and I was not welcome and was under extreme danger. I don't know what, but we encountered something that I think is not human that night.

To all night shift workers, police officers, security guards, or anyone who has ever spent time alone in eerie settings, I want to hear your most bone-chilling experiences.

Have you ever seen something you could not explain? Heard footsteps when no one was there? Witnessed something so strange or unsettling that it still haunts you today?

Whether it was a ghost sighting during work, an unexplained noise in an empty building, or something truly terrifying in a remote location, I am collecting real spine-tingling stories that defy logic.

Please share in as much detail as possible. What happened, how did it feel, and what stuck with you afterward? I wanna hear what make your skin crawl just remembering them.

Let us get spooky.

So I have always been very curious about the supernatural. During COVID, I worked as a traveling mechanic for a commuter rail service. I had many responsibilities but the one, unfortunately, I had to deal with the most was suicides. During the heart of the pandemic, I was going to 2 to 3 a week. I pretty much had to make sure there was no damage and the train was safe to operate. I had one in late September where the victim was caught up in the power cables between the cars and I had to assist getting her untangled so the coroner could take the body away. I hadn't seen a body up close since my time in the military and it was a bit unnerving. Fast forward around a week and I was traveling back from a call when the weather changed dramatically almost instantaneously. I am talking a good 20-degree drop and high winds. I was around a mile from my work trailer and my truck just died. Now keep in mind I was working long, stress-filled hours during this time. I got out to pop the hood and the truck cab temp dropped. I looked over and the woman whose body I had helped untangle was sitting in the passenger seat but I could see right through her. I fell out of the truck and ran across the street. A few minutes later it began to pour rain and hail. I went back to the truck and she was gone. I will never forget that night and I still have nightmares about it.

My mom took me to everything unusual. Psychics, mediums, yogis, psychic fairs, meditation classes when I was a child about 8 or so up through my mid 20s. Edgar Cayce's secretary would visit us often. I studied meditation and Soul Travel from Paul Twitchell, Pretty Boy Floyd's girlfriend was a friend of the family. It was a collection of very interesting people my parents knew.

We had family that attended Jim's church and we started attending with them. Later, when Jim moved the church to California friends and family followed him there. We didn't.

As a child i'd watch Jim in church and at times I'd see what looked like bug eyes go over his eyes. Back then he didn't wear glasses like you see him in sunglasses in photos from the 1970s. I'd also see what looked like a round black ball, bigger than a basket ball float our of his abdomen and return. I'd bring it up to my mom and at Sunday school at times but no one else said the saw the same. This happened many times over the 3 years we attended the church.

I had a serious lung infection and was in the hospital frequently. My lungs were scarred and the doctors were concerned as I grew and my lungs grew as the scar tissue won't grow and what will happen to me so I got frequent x rays on my lungs.

One day after church we were about to leave and someone put their arms around me and held me against them, it was Jim. My head was about to his chest. This round blob of black smoke exuded from his abdomen came though my back and out of my chest. He looked down at me and nodded to look at it. I wasn't afraid, it didn't hurt, left no mark. Many church members stood around watching. Did they see the smoke? He did this two Sundays in a row. I felt no different. A few weeks later I saw the smoke from his abdomen and eyes again. Something freaked my mom out and she grabbed me and out the door we went never to return. Did she see the smoke or did something else happen, I don't know. I wish I had asked.

The next time I went to the doctors for x-rays my lungs were totally free of scar tissue. There was no explanation. I wanted to tell about what Jim did but my mom said not to say a thing. This was about 1965. The scars never came back. I've never had a bit of lung trouble all my life. Did Jim heal me?

Years later in the 1970s the Jonestown incident happened. My mom and I were on the phone watching the news and talking in shock what had happened to all those people. Some of my mom's friends had followed Jim there as did some distant family members. We never talked about him over those years between 1965 and the 70s when Jonestown hit the news.

Not to make light of what happened in the 1970s things were different in the early 1960s. I spent two Christmases at Jim's house as a child, was in the children's choir and church plays. As a child it was a fun church with lots of other kids. I don't know what happened in Indiana that caused him to move to California, I remember some adults upset with Jim. I was a kid and oblivious to that part. But clear as day I saw this smoke come out of his eyes and abdomen. I never saw anything like that before or after. I've no idea what it was or if others saw it, too.

Another life lesson. Things change. It's all perception. I think he started out with good intentions but lost the direction along the way. Pay attention to where you keep your focus and place your attention. Both will take you in a direction but make sure it's a direction you want to go.

Podcasters don't use my story without my permission.

Just curious if any of you don't believe in a god but do/slightly believe in the paranormal.

I personally do but more of a scientific kind of way. As in ghosts are just forms of energy we don't know about but maybe later in the future we would figure it out and understand it more.

Edit: im not asking if you believe in a god or not. I'm asking if you're a religious person and a believer or a skeptic or if you're an athiest and a believer or skeptic.

I love hearing stories about things children have said or done that can’t be explained eg. past lives, passed family members they never met, figures adults can’t see ect.

So what’s your story?

So last night around 8pm my best friend was supposed to drop by to drink a few beers and shoot pool. Let's call my friend Brian for anonymitys sake. After all the fathers day ruckus ended we were gonna relax and wind down. Perfect Sunday night.

At 5 minutes to 8 I hear a knock on my side door (our main entrance), so I get off the couch and head over to let him in. I open the door and it's Brian, same guy I've known for more than 15 years at this point. A slight smile on his face. Only thing missing was the 12 pack of beers he told me he was bringing.

"Whats up? You forget the brews or did you drink them all on the drive over??"

No response. Just this calm smile but he says nothing. I'm perplexed to say the least. Before I can tell him to come in or ask about the silent treatment he does a quick turn to his right and begins to walk back up my driveway.

This is when I noticed his truck is not in the drive, not in any of the "parking spots" or anywhere parked on the drive where I can see. I live in a rural area with a long gravel drive and he's just walking back up it, no vehicle in sight.

I finally snap out of it and say something like "Hey! Yo! Brian! Whats up??". Again no response. He continues up my driveway until he reaches a bend and walks out of my sight. Heading towards the road.

I'm left dumbstruck. Did I offend him some way? Is this a prank? I've known this dude for over a decade, never been a prankster to my knowledge. I close the door and head back to my living room. I grab my phone off the armrest and call Brian. No answer. Wait a few moments, call again. No answer.

I'm home alone, my wife and kids are still at her father's house, we celebrated earlier in the day so they could spend the evening with him. The house is unusually quiet with just me there. A couple minutes pass.

My phone rings. It's Brian. He says he's still on his way over, but he got pulled over on the way to the liquor store, got a seatbelt ticket. He's laughing about it and sounds like his usual self. He saw my calls but didn't want to answer while sitting on the side of the road with an officer writing out his ticket.

I'm still confused but I just tell him we're still on, come on over and we'll shoot pool like we planned. Little over 10 minutes later and I hear a vehicle door close. I'm a little jumpy so Im already out the side door and looking to meet him halfway. It's Brian, holding up his ticket for the seat belt in one hand, an entire case of beer under the other arm. He's joking that I have to pay the ticket now since he paid for the beer.

I didn't tell him what happened. I haven't told anybody. I tried to forget about it and just went about our night as if nothing happened. I couldn't think of what to say, how do you explain something like this? I was flummoxed and just went with it.

I hadn't had a drop of alcohol all day. I don't smoke weed or do psychedelics and I've never had any kind of hallucinations or other mental health issue. I wasn't asleep or sleep walking. I know what I saw and I know who it was (or was supposed to be).

I'm actually kinda hoping it was all some kind of prank because I honestly have no other explanation.

In February of this year I went to pigeon forge Tennessee with my family and we stayed in this adorable little cabin on a golf course, anyway my parents, nana, aunt and her daughter, and my brother, his girlfriend and his dad all went out to explore the woods riding trails and me, my sister, and my cousin all stayed at the cabin.

About 30 minutes after they left the 3 of us were playing cards against humanity and laughing and joking about the cards we kept getting when we hear a knock at the front door. Now it's important to note that we were all sitting in the dining room. The dining room had about 8-10 windows around the room, one of which was pointed directly at the door. The door is angled towards the dining room. When the knock had happened I had actually just gotten up to check on some cookies I had in the oven so I was at a point where I couldn't see the door but they could. My sister was staring at the door and my cousin was looking at me with such an unexplainable expression that kinda creeped me out but I still set my mitts down and went to walk to the door. But about halfway there my sister called me from the BACK door. Mind you I can still see my sister at the dining room table AND whatever it was called me by my legal government first name, my sister has not called me my legal name since she was in 3rd grade. When that happened I was on high alert and realized I probably shouldn't open the door because uhm, duh. So I just went and sat down and chose to ignore it.

Now the night before I had called my older cousin to debrief about a situation with my ex, during this call I was sitting in the metal glider on the porch where the hot tub is because it felt like I was suffocating inside. As I'm sitting there I notice that on the golf cart bridge down the hill from me something is standing there. Looking directly at me. Now at the time I chalked it up to being a man standing there because that's not unusual for me but as I'm finishing up my conversation with my cousin I get this overwhelming sense of dread and danger and I can't tell where it's coming from. So I quietly got up and went inside and watched a movie.

Funny enough the day after the events of the first paragraph unfolded we went to an exotic car exhibit and an aquarium. Now all was good there, nothing strange, but when we were driving through the mountains to get back to the cabin that feeling of dread came back. It was so overwhelming I was in physical pain from how heavy my chest felt. About 5 minutes into the unbearable pain and sense of dread driving me nuts, it stopped. It just went away. No lingering ache in my chest, no dread, nothing. My parents were looking at me like they thought I needed a hospital and my brother's (at the time) girlfriend was leaning over the backseat making sure that I was good and that I didn't need anything. The whole thing was really weird and very disturbing.

Can y'all help me to figure out what this entity was because 4 months later I'm still going absolutely insane over it.

Update: I went online to try and find pictures but it's like it doesn't exist.. I distinctively remember the cabin and where it was but it's just not there.. I even asked my mom about it and she thought it was weird too.

Yesterday I was clearing out a dresser drawer that my parents used when I was a kid. This specific drawer had contents from 1986-1988 with a small box that included a little Barbie on a bicycle, a very tiny silver apple with a copper stem and a purple hot wheels car. The toys were not mine. I placed the toys temporarily in another drawer and suddenly felt like I was not alone. Out of my peripheral vision I saw a figure, about the height of a 5-year-old darting back and forth in my mom’s kitchen area of her studio. I attributed it to low blood sugar and went about cleaning.

The next morning, I went back to the studio and started cleaning again. As I went about the room I could feel that I was not alone. It sounded like someone was rearranging items near the entry to the studio. The presence was strong and very clearly the same presence as the day before.

Yesterday I decided to ask my mom about the toys. Her face was very confused as she tried to place where or who they belonged to. I had shown her other items and she promptly explained who, where and how she got them. But these 3 things she was completely baffled. I asked my daughter if she wanted them and she she’d like the purple car but immediately avoided the small Barbie.

I placed them on the kitchen counter and continued cleaning in my mom’s studio. A few hours later my husband and daughter start shouting “are you messing with the lights!!!??” I wasn’t anywhere near the lights and told them no. A chill down went down my spine once it dawned on me that maybe it’s the toys — I had hoped it wasn’t and rushed to where they were at. Once arriving in our kitchen, I see the Barbie sitting next to my husband’s hand.

“Mommy mommy! Daddy was holding the Barbie and the eyes got dark and that light shut off and the other light dimmed down!!”

My husband added that my daughter made a hissing sound with her dinosaur toy at the small Barbie when the main overhead light turned off in a way that he hadn’t seen before, his words were “it popped off”.

I asked to speak to my husband in private. He immediately whispers “Phoebe.” And I said possibly but I’m not sure, that it could be the others — which to be extremely clear — none of us, including my mom know the extent of what my father was involved in. He died before the FBI was able to get further with his case.

We’d like to respectfully remove the toys but we’re not sure how. And we’re also not sure if that type of thing is possible? That drawer, to my knowledge, hadn’t been disturbed since the early 1990s.

UPDATE: I will call the FBI agent on Monday and surrender the toys if they want me to do so. Please note: my father is dead and I have been told on multiple occasions that they can’t “persecute a dead guy”.

I don't know if this is the best place to talk about this, but I don't know where else to explain it. February 7th my uncle began sedation after battling cancer for a year, it was in the middle of the night and nobody told me, I didn't even know that he was in hospice. That same night I had the most vivid dream I've ever had, I was in a really long hallway, with white walls and no decorations. I walked slowly down the hallway and got inside the only door that was there, my uncle was sitting in a bed with white bedding, I sat with him and he started talking to me. He told me that he was dying, that he wouldn't be able to say goodbye to me, he apologized for leaving my aunt alone and not being able to fulfill the promises he made to me. He died a day after that, ever since he died, I've kept getting dreams where he talks to me or just hugs me.

So, I know this is going to sound cheesy and fake but last night on Friday the 13th. Me and my bf were spending time together and I thought “oh let’s go out to the woods by your dorm and look for raccoons and possums and other critters” because we both love animals like that. We both agreed and went to grab dinner and then walked to the woods. It’s about 10-ish and we’re about 2 miles in and I see this deer jump right over the path and into the bushes and I say “oh, look it’s a deer” and he looks for a good 5 minutes but doesn’t see the deer and I see it clear as day. But, after that we continue and we’re about 4-5 miles deep into this trail then my bf says “I run this trail every single morning and I honestly have no clue where we are” and that kinda spooked me because it’s pitch black out and he has no clue where we are so we see this path that takes a right and we assume that it will loop around and take us back to the beginning so we can leave.

I’m about 2-4 feet ahead of him and I just freeze in place with my phone flashlight pointing in the brush and he comes around the corner and sees me and says “what the fuck is wrong” and I say “look” pointing my flash of my phone in the brush and he’s looking down and I just say “look up” and he looks up and all you see are these bright blue humanoid eyes about 9 feet up staring at me, it was really skinny but so tall, and you can slowly see it scanning to me to him. I make eye contact with it for maybe a minute until he grabs me and says “we need to go” and the second he said that the thing moves towards us in like this crooked movement.

(FYI it was like a grassy plains area with no trees in the area just tall grass and bushes) So we walk slowly I’m walking backwards he has me by the wrist while he walks forwards and you can just see this thing stalk us until we take the left turn and retrace our steps back out of the woods while we were walking/running we were screaming prayers and I don’t know it was terrifying and when we left my body just kept telling me to go back into the woods and I couldn’t stop tearing up while just staring at the woods when we got out of it. (Also while we were leaving there was this loud shriek or howl)

(I know this is speculation but he said the name skinwalker or wendigo and I was also whistling at deer in the woods) I don’t know and we smelt this super strong odor and it got dead quiet when we saw it and the closer we got to leaving the louder it got of wild life

Hey, new to this sub and I've never really told anybody this before but something weird happened to me when I was about 10 years old. I ended up reliving 2 weeks of my life. Not sure if that's confusing but basically I was proceeding with my life as normal and suddenly upon waking I found myself 2 weeks in the past.

Nothing else strange happened, it was just me living those 2 weeks again. I remember being really scared it would keep looping so I felt relieved when time continued after the 2 weeks.

I told my Mother and of course she didn't believe me and it's not the type of thing you can convince people of. I did have that thought that I should play the lottery but being 10 years old I didn't even watch the lottery or remember any numbers so I obviously couldn't do much. I was too young to know about stocks or anything. And honestly I didn't pay attention to the news so I couldn't exactly predict anything either.

I mostly just remember being tortuously bored because everything had already happened so I decided to just go along with it all again.

Apologies if this is a boring post but it did indeed happen to me and I have no explanation for it. I remember after getting old being utterly terrified of what happened because I have no logical explanation but nowadays it feels so far removed I don't feel that same fear anymore.

If anybody has any other logical explanation I'm happy to hear it though. Not sure if I can answer any questions because it was so long ago and honestly nothing of note happened so it wasn't exactly a wild story.

When I was around 7 years old, my grandmother passed away. I was a child and, I did not even understand the concept of death. A few nights after she had passed, I had a dream of her. I had taken a bite out of a pencil and "died" from it, and I ended up in this pitch black room where I finally am able to see my grandmothers face and she yelled at me and said "WHAT ARE DOING HERE? GET OUT NOW!" I was so frightened which is why I will never forget that dream. Years later, I had another dream about her where my entire family threw a get together because she was coming back. We were all so excited and then I saw her walking towards me with the brightest light shinning behind her, she looked happy and healthy, not sickly the way from when she was alive. She was going to talk to me before I woke up. I knew she was at peace. Even with my grandfather, I was around 16 when had passed and he was my best friend. I was grieving a lot and at one point I sat in my backyard just asking him to hold my hand, and obviously nothing happened and I thought I was going crazy. Well, days later I had a dream where we were at this big party, and theres a bright spotlight on a man, the man turned out to be my grandpa and he reached for my hand and I felt - and I mean felt- his hand. It was unreal, and I knew it was both of them visiting me to tell me they were okay and watching over me. It has given me peace especially knowing that theres more after life, even though many might not agree.
