Actually has mechanics to interact with, punishes you for ignoring them... If anything, I'd say some of the mechanics (particularly the ghosts) aren't punishing enough, but also need to be communicated better to the player. Having voiced dialogue or, failing that, on-screen text notifications to tell people what they should do would be great.

I think generally speaking it'd be good to have bosses again that will actually flat-out wipe you and punish you to some degree with it to the point where failure is a very real concern if you keep ignoring everything, and having a healthy mix of personal & group responsibilities is nice, especially if ignoring either punishes you in different ways, or rather rewards you for doing it correctly. These are, ultimately, fundamentals for proper boss design and something that's been lacking in quite a few of them in the past.

I never healed before so i looked around. I found the heal alac tempest build by snowscrows. I took the build, equipment and went to the golem. I took the quickness buff, food and enhancement activated the easy dmg area. No problem at all, since there is like 0 dmg coming in.

Activated the medium area. I stood there for minutes. No problem at all.

Then i activated the hard dmg area. I died before i hit earth. Even when i use my water signet and big self heal i couldnt finish my first cycle. I tried again, again, again and again. For about an hour. I died every single time. The maximum i could get was after earth i went to water to keep up regen but the dmg was too high.

So i was wondering, is it just a skill issue or is the extreme dmg area really over the top? I didn‘t go to strikes yet since i didnt want the group to die because of me. Is the incoming dmg in strikes even comparable to the hard dmg field? Is there maybe something i missed?

https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/elementalist/heal-alacrity-tempest

I used this. I put in water signet and feel the burn as skills.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks for all the answers :))

Thought I'd make a video of my new favourite build in the game.

I'm not claiming it's top tier or anything, but it's a lot of fun. HUGE damage and high mobility and it helps that Ele spear is visually stunning.

A lot of people claiming Spear Weaver is unplayable, which I don't agree with, but it certainly isn't easy to play!

If you're planning to make the new legendary backpack, one of the harder to obtain recipes (plate of spicy herbed chicken) is up at the Pact Supply Network agent today in Dry Top, Town of Prosperity (north of [&BH4HAAA=]). It's an account-bound version, so only good if you want the recipe for yourself.

Hello! There is a bug active in Kinfall and Lonely Tower, when upon repeated completion you don't get the final chest or fractal encryptions. It's been active for a very long time and it's easily reproduceable, but there is no mention of it anywhere. Not on wiki or not on any forum post (that I could find). Is this happening to anyone else? It is a little weird that no one reported it publicly before. I opened a ticket for it and was advised to report it in game, but not knowing what's going on with my report bothers me a bit, so I decided to talk about it here Kind regards

This seems like a huge oversight. I tend to block people because of stuff like slurs, extremely toxic behavior in content, trolling, etc. In my opinion those people should not be able to join a group I'm running and have in LFG. I think a lot of us have had the experience of someone being kicked from a squad and rejoining or just being an ass if you don't have your squad locked. I've also had people blocked and have not realized so asking their roles, etc. becomes difficult since I can't see their replies and frankly don't want to because I blocked them for a reason.

That shouldn't be the solution- just lock the squad. Hopefully the devs see this and agree because it's contributed to bad experiences in the game for myself and others I know.

Hey everyone,

As I was writing the last achievement hunting guide, the question of "Why would someone that doesn't think about achievements, doesn't know much about them or isn't interested in them care?" This got me wondering about what achievements actually do and why they're useful & important. This guide won't be about which achievements are extremely easy to get, are worth a lot of points (although, "number go up" is always nice) or add a lot of lore that is nice but not needed for the story or to understand gameplay. Instead, I will be breaking down the various reasons why achievements are important, beneficial to earn (you don't need to be a super sweaty gamer to get them - trust me, I'm not) and how they can benefit you in unexpected ways.

Firstly, what is an achievement? It's a pretty basic concept that is almost a universal concept in gaming. But, essentially, you performed a task under a certain condition. This can be as simple as opening a menu, performing a basic action or being in a certain location but can get as challenging as you can imagine with strict performance expectations in harsh and punishing conditions. As a reward for completing the task or challenge, you get some form of bonus, money or perk.

  • Achievement Points

These are the benefit for completing achievements in Guild Wars 2. It's a simple concept where generally the harder the achievement is the more points you get. Easier achievements may give only 1 point, 3, 5 or sometimes 10 whereas the harder achievements give 15, 20 or even up to 50 points each. However, there is a noticeable shift in the amounts of points that achievements give you between the game in the earlier years of content and more recent content. More recent achievements give significantly less achievement points due to a type of 'inflation' where there's an ever increasing amount of points available. But why does that matter?

As you complete more achievements and earn more rewards, you reach a milestone every 500 points. That's enough that you aren't hitting a milestone every day but close enough that you are always within grasp of your next goal. Rewards include laurels and raw gold which might not seem like much any more, but frequently feature account bonuses like magic find, gold find, karma find and experience gain. As a single percentage bonus each, they may not seem like much, but over time it can mean a significant increase in rewards.

There's much more tangible and immediate benefits to milestone rewards, too. For anyone into fashion wars, you can get the Zenith weapon skins, Radiant armour skins and Hellfire armour skins. Depending on the milestone achieved, you'll also get a regular, large, heavy or massive achievement chest with rewards including quality of life consumables (instant bank access, etc.), boosters, karma and more.

  • Mini-Games and & Activities

ArenaNet has put the time into developing a lot of nice side content and games that help keep you entertained in Guild Wars 2. Achievements are a way to highlight these fun aspects without having to shove it in your face. Heart of Thorns has tonnes of activities on the maps that reward achievements and after Path of Fire released, most or all new content has included content with the Griffon mount. There's even an entire category dedicated to Beetle Racing.

  • Earning Legendaries

Legendaries are great for quality of life but are also a huge undertaking to earn. These journeys through achievements, their collections, and the trials and tribulations we face along the way. Return To is a great example of rewarding players for going back and replaying content. Ad Infinitum teaches us that engaging in the content in a dedicated way and exercising mastery over it is a great way to earn that purple item. Aurora and Vision are examples of immersing yourself deep into the living world and reaping the benefits of it. Generation 1 weapons may be available on the trading post freely, but they show that if you're willing to go through the weapon's journey then you earn the right to have the freedom to not need to rely on others for your own weapons.

  • Build Flexibility

As mentioned with Prismatic Regalia, Aurora, Vision and Ad Infinitum, legendaries help you with quality of life and being able to change the stats on your gear any time you want. But with the introduction of the Legendary Relic, if you want a relic that is not part of the initial release of bonuses, you need to earn the achievement(s) associated with them. There likely is an alternative bonus that is comparible or only marginally worse. But for completeness and maximum flexibility, you do need to engage with the content behind the relic.

Masteries are earned with points and those points are earned by completing achievements. They can be as simple as visiting a location and being uninterrupted for 5 seconds or as daunting as completing a raid or a strike. But, masteries have significant impacts on how you can play the game and access certain areas and piece of content. It can be as simple as not being able to get the Springer until your Raptor has a certain mastery, not being able to spit fireballs from your Skyscale or not being able to even fight Xera because you lack ley-line gliding.

  • Variety

You may not realize it or put much thought into it, but achievements encourage us to play different maps and different content on a daily basis. Daily Season 3 and Daily Season 4 are great examples of this along with Weekly Fractals that encourages you to fractals uniquely every week. These things are not big and in your face, but quiet nudges to remind you to try different things and give you a nice little pat on the back when you do. Depending on your current goals, like Ad Infinitum, can even give you a big boost in progress.

Ever seen someone with cool text below their name and wonder how they got it? Perhaps it's in a different colour like gold or purple. This is how! They completed a task, sometimes easy and sometimes... not, and part of their reward is to be able to show it off with that fancy text.

  • Quality of Life

With the introduction of the Wizard's Portal Tome and Wizard's Gobbler, progress of the associated achievement collection has been directly connected to accessibility of quality of life items. The further you progress in these item collections, the more you can free up your inventory for other items.

Sorry that this ended up being so long. I tried to keep it as short and to the point as possible but there's some many aspects of the game that achievements affect and I didn't want to leave anything out. With that being said, if I did forget something, please comment below! I'll be sure to add it in and provide credit. For anyone that still isn't sure about achievements or has any questions, please feel free to comment below and me or someone else can answer your questions and help you out. Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to releasing more Achievement Hunting guides soon.

Gw2 raiding scene is one of the worst that I have tried to get into. The community seems obsessed with kp, and not one or 2 kills, like 3 months of kills if you raided every week. It's the same energy as having 2 years experience for a job, but you have only just left education.

You are told to look in the raid training lfg, I haven't seen a single group in there. So the next step is to join a training discord and/or a guild the does training and hope there training days and times line up with your schedule. But even then, you have to join the training groups, then get promoted into practice groups, then finally kill runs, get enough kp and then you can join the lfg runs. It seems the raiding community has gated off new players to play content that is like 7 years old, completely min maxed and power crept. To the point there has only been one new wing in what, 5 years? Because the devs claim the raiding community is smaller than the pvp community. And I can honestly see why, the commitment needed to raid in this game is insane. Other games i have raided in, I just watch a few guides, jump into lfg, state I know what to do but never done it, profit.

I really like the look of the gw2 raids and the roles needed to be done in them, like hand kite, portal placement, healer tanks, needing to glide in CM to avoid ground aoe.

I have no idea on how to fix this issue, but I hope something is done. Rant over.

I actually was on the winning side and it was complete ownage, to the point 2 of them even went afk.

I've been on the oher side as well. Lately somehow PvP matches feel totally one sided, you even stomp or get stomped.

I rarely ever get a balanced match that's actually challenging and fun even if I lose. And apparently its the same for the rest of the guys since this kind of matches encourages people to say gg in chat or wp, and such.

Maybe an option would be to balance teams while on match? I really don't know any better but this is bonkers, and if toxicity didn't kill PvP completely this eventually will.

PS: It isn't any better on ranked..

Waiting Sorrow is originally from the Shiverpeaks, yet she looks like a Lowland Kodan. Is she using some kind of mesmer magic? Dagda and Isgarren immediately recognized her when she came back, so the change in appearance occured before she left the order.

These things haven't been touched in years, the freshest currency it offers is LWS4 Volatile Magic. What's stopping Anet from adding Imperial Favors, Soto Map currency, Rift Essences, Research Notes and Ursus Obliges to these things? Especially if you're charging 10 Jorbreakers/Candy Cobs/Snow Diamonds for them.

Okay, so ... this is a bit of a heavy subject and I'm feeling a little weird about sharing it, but Guild Wars 2 has helped us through a very difficult time and hey, maybe it'll inspire somebody out there to take a loved one on their very own journey through Tyria.

My girlfriend, her mother Sally and I have played video games together for many years. We've been on Guild Wars 2 since launch, brought some friends from the first game, met some new ones along the way, gf and I did our stuff, Sally did hers. She didn't quite get the hang of it at the time, bit of an older gamer, eyesight and reaction time not quite what they used to be, you get the idea. No biggie.

A couple years ago, Sally was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Operation, chemo, radiotherapy, the full package, maximum dosage, the sort of treatment that'll take years off your life, but will ultimately buy you some good years when it gets rid of the cancer.

It's not very pretty or dignified. You lose your hair, your appetite, the radiation doesn't just attack the cancer, but also a lot of healthy areas in your body, resulting in a lot of damage. We used to go out a lot as a family, but with Sally being in a wheelchair, unable to handle most kinds of food, you just don't feel overly social in that state. So we met in Tyria, instead.

One thing I've always loved about Guild Wars 2 is how you can bring friends along for your personal story. So we accompanied Sally through hers. She had always struggled with this stuff on her own, so we teamed up with her, she got to be the Commander, to call the shots, tell her tale, while we'd be by her side to experience the whole story with her and to render assistance where needed.

Of course doing this sort of thing in a group trivialises everything, but it wasn't about the challenge. It was about staying together, doing something with each other. When it became clear this was going to be a regular thing, we even got Sally's other daughter, my girlfriend's sister to join us on there. She was reluctant at first. I told her that we're all hoping for things to be okay, that we all want to get together again in real life, but with the situation Sally was in, nobody could be sure about the outcome. This was a chance to spend some time together, shape some memories, spend time with each other. And hey, once the cancer is gone, you will have spent a few nights here and there playing video games together - you never know, you might even enjoy it!

It was great! Sally was getting better and a little more experienced, gf and I had blasted through all of the content whenever new updates were released anyway, so now we got to show it all to her sister. We dragged her all over Tyria, showed her all the sights, played world events as we passed them, and the four of us played all the story dungeons together as they levelled up. Good times!

Things started to get a lot better after a while. Sally would insist on facing certain quests, challenges and dragons on her own, to show that she could do it. In a way, they were sort of a stand-in for ... well, you know. She was fighting her very own personal dragon at the time. The treatment helped, the wheelchair was traded for a walker. Well, a silly walker, really, as we're in the UK and the ministry of silly walks enforces these things. My girlfriend and I bought handheld gaming PCs. You know, a bit like a Steam Deck or a ROG Ally? We went with slightly different models, but you get the idea. When Sally was fit enough again to hang out in person, we'd come over with our handheld computers and all played together while we were there. GW2 runs pretty great on these little machines and the game is surprisingly playable with a controller when set up right!

Bit by bit, we've finished every story mission, every dungeon, every meta event, each expansion as a family. Given the situation, some story moments were more difficult to handle than others. Eir's story. A certain moment with Aurene. Soo-Won's last words. We'd also fight side by side on the Eternal Battlegrounds or practice in the guild arena whilst talking sh1t to each other in between fights. And what do you know, just as Sally had made it all the way to see the end of dragons, then made it into the next expansion, the cancer was gone. At least for a while. We made it through Secrets of the Obscure together, started building up our humble, little guild hall one tiny piece at a time. We also had a little place in Hoelbrak, where we liked to hang out when we just wanted to sit and chat for a bit. We liked to sit inside these little tents near the NPC vendors with the carts. Sally had always been crushing on Stefan, so she could keep an eye on him while we sat there and talked. Tyria was our happy place.

Last October the cancer came back. Had one more family birthday together, one last Christmas, one more New Year's Eve. Cancer is relentless. Doesn't care about your plans, your hopes and dreams, it just takes. Your hair, your independence, your dignity, your mind. I was by her side when it took her life.

You may find this incredibly weird or cheesy, but alongside all the photographs and pictures we put up for the funeral, we also had a few of our characters together on Guild Wars 2.

It's hard to even look at this game right now. See all these places we used to go together, the music we enjoyed, watching her empty space in the guild hall and seeing her name on the guild roster, offline for months, never to come back. Don't get me wrong, the three of us are definitely coming back, maybe when things look up again and we can cough up the money for Janthir Wilds, but just checking on there for events right now feels incredibly ... well, you know.

Eh, sorry. It's not my intention to make anybody sad. Thing is, for as much as I hate the way it had to end, for as painful as it still is, and continues to be for some time, there were also lots of incredibly happy, joyful or just plain awesome moments. When Sally felt too weak for us to spend time with her, we could still be together in Tyria. We battled dragons. Heck, we raised a dragon, taught her values, and saved the world. That's pretty badass. And for a while, it helped her fight her condition, visualise it, get stronger. They were some of the best moments we got to share with each other. I will miss them dearly, but I'll also treasure them for the rest of my life.

Things won't be the same without you.

I remember last festival adding also a new trident, and previous one, a harpoon gun. Anet, what are you planning, I'm watching you... underwater overhaul mechanics? Tridents and harpoon guns to land? This is not randomness, you did not add a single trident or harpoon gun in a decade (very little exceptions)...
