I can count on one hand the places I actually like and have stayed consistently good in Boise. I feel like it's gotten worse in the past few years, like even the chain restaraunts were ok but it's just bad now. I just spent 50$ at IHOP for 3 people and feel like a sucker. A few weeks ago I went to Nara Sushi and the pork was like shoe leather. Eureka used to have good burgers but now they're worse than McDonalds.

Shout out to Hugo's Deli for always being top teir.

Where should I avoid? What used to be good and sucks now?

So, there are lots of book clubs, so what about music? There's so much good stuff out there, and it makes it hard to keep up.

We could bounce new music off each other, share recommendations, even discuss recent shows we've been to. Meet at a pub, coffee shop, or my back yard.

Thoughts?

r/Boise stands unwavering in support of reproductive rights, affirming the right for all individuals to make personal choices about pregnancy, and we stand equally committed to defending the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community

Moving forward, we will not tolerate hostility towards either of these topics. There has been a marked increase of people chanting white power and more in this subreddit. The moderation team wants to state, we stand with those that are in fear for their rights and we stand firmly against bigots.

Regardless of your subject, if you can't make your point without using slurs, bigotry or dog whistles, you'll be banned without hesitation.

Who has it? What is it? Why do you like it so much?

I grew up in Boise. Graduated from Boise. Worked in boise. Moved to California in 2018 for job opportunities. Every time I visit my family, I get constant harassment due to my California plates.

So far, on this trip:

  • I've been flipped off
  • Someone has spit on my car
  • Someone dumped their drink on my car
  • Someone shouted, "Go back to where you came from!"

I've been told from family, that at this point, I either need to make a "sign" for my car, or just fly and rent a car.

I don't understand this weird, pathetic aggression and I'm so tired of dealing with it. Be better neighbors, Boise.:(

Encourage everybody to get a computer science degree > lay them off > outsource the work to make more money

This week, the Boise City Council approved a memorandum of understanding among law enforcement in Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Star plus the Ada County Sheriff's Office to allow police to enforce Greenbelt violations regardless of the jurisdiction.

Police can issue an infraction if they see people on the Greenbelt acting with "no regard" to pedestrians.

Read more about it (and other Greenbelt safety things) here.

Anybody else down this morning? I can’t even call in to them. Message says technical difficulties.

Edit: I’m back up in Meridian.

I've seen the black license plates in a couple other states and they look cool. They're not really my vibe, but they look really neat on a lot of other cars. I believe they're going to cost an extra $70 just to get that color, which is kind of a smart way for the DMV to get revenue, since people who want the black license plate will pay for it!

I am interested to see what the white and teal one looks like.

The Trump administration withheld more than $6 billion in federal education funds. The district said it would face "difficult decisions" without the funding.

Unfortunately not much detail in the article.

Normally I wouldn't do this but with the July 1st ruling in effect I feel I don't have a choice. I'm a homeless service connected veteran who's been here in Boise since April of 2024. I've been staying at interfaith sanctuary from April of last year until June of this year. I've been showing up every day at 4:20pm, waiting to until 4:30-4:45 to be entered on the wait list to stay for the night. I've had no issues getting a bed until recently. For the last month or so interfaith has been full every night and I've been forced to find other places to sleep. River of life isn't my preferred shelter as they have some fairly homophobic ideologies and lack proper storage for my things (a 30lb backpack with my essentials and a huge 19" laptop that can't fit in a locker) but even River of Life is full. I've received 4 warning tickets about setting up my tent on the Greenbelt and just received my 1st ticket tonight. I was told by the police officers that river of life has space available now but I take sleep aid OTC medication to help me sleep and I decided not to bike over there for my safety. I'm just at a lost as to what I should do. I start my new job(I finally got a job offer after applying almost every day since I came here) and I just wish either shelter would have space available at the times I was told to show up instead of at midnight when I'm trying to sleep. That's according to the police at least. They could just be making that up. I don't think it's a good idea to bike over there when I'm this drowsy to confirm it. I'm not looking for hand outs I just want people here to know what I'm going through and what this bill is doing to my already difficult life. On a side note I was denied a HUD-VASH voucher after being in the program for a year waiting for a voucher to become available. I was told the reason for that is because I have a previous eviction. That was in February of this year. I was given 30 days to pay off the eviction and since I wasn't able to pay it off in time I was removed from the program.
